Is the PS3 scene almost dead?
If you know me, you know that I was quite active in the past. Sadly, I left the scene for about 3 months or so? All this due to several life problems that I somehow wasn't able to get over. I lost one relative a few months ago, I crashed my mother's car, and had a bunch of school work.
Enough is enough about me. Today I got home and had absolutely nothing to do, so I just turned on my computer and came straight to PS3Hax.net. Once I saw the recent posts, I noticed that they were all about the same thing that I had read a few weeks ago. Some weeks I logged in for about 10 minutes and some I would not even think about my PC. While I tried to keep up with the scene I took notes on the recent news and posts. When I came back they were about the same topic. So I thought to myself, could it be? Is it dead? To be honest, I really don't know. A lot of changes have taken place since I last logged in for more than 30 minutes...

The scene is as dead as you want it to be .If you have a playstation 3 & friends & devs in the scene & game mods the scene will never be dead ! There is always having 2 PS3s & playing 400+psn games + DLC + 1000 PS3 games on CFW 355 .. So i would not go as far as to say or think is it dead .. I am still quite happy ,but others just can not get enough ,but i can !
But that is me ..

With regards to a "fresh" jailbreak I guess it is on life support pretty much and that's only because of what Kakaroto has been saying (although it's anybody's guess when that will be done) but there are still a lot of things still going on for 3.41 and 3.55 with or without dongles.
I guess when you compare it to the Wii and 360 scenes it is just a case of "what might of been"...

@iDelete
, long time no see!
It depends on what you call being dead. In the last month: a softmod RSOD fix has been revealed a PS3 FactoryServiceMode Tool (Softmod No JIG) a LV2 Loader a XMB File Manager multiman for DEX Boxes PS3Tools GUI Just to name a few. No new (free) MFW announcements but good things should come from some of the above. (at least I'm hoping.)

Sorry about your loss
@iDelete
and I hope your doing better from that crash..... Some people consider the scene to be dead(those people are wanting cfw 4.00 or fixes to play newer games). I think it's slowly moving

I feel u
@iDelete
but I try to help so of the new comers to the scene cause there was someone here for me. Yet sometimes I wonder if the cat's even read but we can all help in someway, and if u ask me now is the thime we need to stick together with all that has gone on in the last month or so with all the copyright stuff and servers being knocked off. I'm here and will be here even when it is dead. But I also have other scene's that I am into.

HEY iDelete long time no see. Sorry for your loss and the problems you have been running into wish you the best of things. The scene to me is not dead, not even a little bit, there is still lots to do still on 3.55, sure there are new and better features on 4.0 but we will get to them when we get to them, for now we still haven't gotten everything done on 3.55 and so I say lets get to it and continue working the scene is not dead only a hefty bunch who wants to play new games.

Sorry man I am also in the same situation like you. I lost my father in a Bus accident. As for the scene i think it will take some time to get the flow again. Just 1 or 2 game fixes last month and a few good pkg's that was it. I remember the days when the scene was flooded with the news and you were at the top posting them

I've said this many times before: The scene is only dead when you aren't getting what you want from it.
The scene is defined by the community. Since there are no set rules on what a scene is supposed to be, it is up to YOU to decide; from the outside, we are just a bunch of geeks -- in a good way -- getting together in hopes of a "common" goal we all "share" being achieved. That "common goal" is different for everybody. To people who just want to pirate games and do not care about accessing the SEN, the scene is alive as long as TB/Cobra/JB King keep releasing frequent updates for their respective dongles. To people who want to pirate games AND play their pirated games on the SEN, the scene is most likely dead. We [Community] haven't been able to play backups over the SEN for many months now and will likely wait the same amount -- if not more -- before we can access the network again. To people who are on 3.56+ and want to install CFW without using hardware flashers, the scene is dying, but they do have Kakaroto's exploit to look forward too but it's not the same as CFW and you shouldn't put all your eggs into one basket. You don't know when this is ever coming out, if it ever will come out. To people who only care about homebrew, the scene might be a little dead but alive none-the-less. The only bit of homebrew that's been released recently has mostly consisted of things that are only useful to developers, and then you have the occasional multiMAN update. The good thing about this is... when the tools and such are put in the hands of the right devs, the people who have waited will be greatly rewarded. This doesn't change the fact that currently things like the N64 emulator, or Sega Dreamcast are MIA. To people who only care about Linux, I honestly can't say. I honestly don't keep up with Linux-development on the PS3. Graf_chokolo is in prison (or so I hear). If not, he is buried in problems right now. Either way, he is BUSY. I know that there is no RSX driver out either. Let's just say that the scene, as far as Linux goes, is on life-support. To people who want the best of both worlds; as in... they want EVERYTHING. I don't know either. It depends on the things they value the most. Their priorities. What matters most to them. Games first, then homebrew? Linux, then games? I don't know. That is for them to decide. It all boils down to what you expect/want from the scene. That's it. EDIT: Moved to the correct section: Scene Drama
