get a bd drive because you can't run games without one
the ps3mfw patches for no bd are just there so you can update nothing more
it doesn't have to be married to the console even the laser can be bad
aslong the bd daughterboard is working you can run pkg games etc

Simple: You need a functioning bluray drive, or at the very least, the controller card, married to your PS3 for anything to boot. Grab a drive that matches your console from ebay, and re-marry it to your PS3.

Copy your games in the GAMES folder instead of GAMEZ and it will work fine for you. I did the same and it worked.

And use the latest version of multiman, It does not require any patches
