Sorry, baking the motherboard is actually the second best fix for YLOD (first one being reballing). Of course, that is if you do it right
![]() What stupid people do is heatgunning the board, no offense :P Heatgun works too but it bends the motherboard, and as a result the solder will be more prone to breaking and the PS3 won't last much longer.

Heat gun works fine (I know, I've done dozens of reflows on both PS3 and X360) the trick is to heat the entire board up for ~5 minutes before concentrating on the Cell/RSX. Also, you do the back first, wait 30 minutes, then flip it over and do the front. Clean the IHS/heatsinks with isopropyl and use Arctic Silver 5.
Yes, a heatgun reflow done wrong is pointless and potentially causes more damage, but done right, it's the easiest solution. I reflowed my CECHA01 6 months ago and it still works fine.

Also you can't heat up the entire board with just a heatgun, you'd need a reflow station.

I would trust the oven method over a heat gun. Yes, both have the potential to do more harm than good if done improperly, but when done correctly, baking the board at a controlled temperature is far better. Just my two cents.
