hmm? bd error? RSOD? harddisk corruption? software error?
yea, before i get to the main point, i will tell my ps3 specifications:
- ps3 fat metal gear solid 80GB bundle 2008 model. - model: CECHE01 - OFW 3.71 so guys here is my story: bought it, and it damn was on 3.6 OFW, played on it, till suddenly stopped reading BR games, tried every "non-new-hardware" solutions (cleaning the lens, formatting the harddisk, restoring the file system, rebuilding the database, changing the harddisk) but no work, so i bought a new laser lens (KES410ACA,the two laser lens part only), installed it, and iam back to business and everything is fine. after two months of replacing the lens, it stopped reading BR games again, (honestly, it had happened after several powercuts or better to say "non-proper-shutdown") and again tried all the "non-new-hardware" solution but no work, i though its my blueray driver is damaged and burning my lens with non proper power management over time. so to the main point, i didnt get a new lens, and played demos and downloadable games, till yesterday, when i took the BD from the ps3 (i tried it before on OFW3.6, everything works fine even if the BD isnt there), and when i tried to play on the ps3, it starts, boots, everything works fine, but when i start a game, nothing comes except a black screen after the ps3 changes to the suitable resolution for the game (ex. from 1080p to 720p), and it stays like that, then a red screen flashed fast (comes up then disappears fast), and the screen stays black, no ps button working or anything, except turing the ps3 off by pressing the power button for 3 sec's (the green led flashed for 6 sec's then it beeps, then it flashes again then it turns off). i tried all the games and demos i have on my HDD, same problem. what do you think is the solution for my problem? also the red screen started now to flash fast (coems and goes) when i start my ps3. not satisfied yet? here is the funny part, while i was trying to fix my black screen stucking problem, i tried "restore file system" and then "rebuild database thingy" but no work, then i put back my BD again, with connection only the power transmission cable (4 wires i guess) and not the data transmission cable (i dunno how many bits, but bah, you know what cable i mean), and then i turned on my ps3, and bang! the BR lens worked again, it moved, and checked for a disc, and yea there is a blue light, i put a br game disc, and it checked it (after rebooting) and the disc is spinning, everything is fine. when i connected the data transmission cable (ofcourse while the ps3 is off), the br lens worked fine and the disc spins fine, but on the XMB, i dont see any disc icon. and my black screen stucking problem is still there when i start any game/demo from my HDD. so do you have any solution for my two problems? (black screen stucking and no disc icon display in the XMB)? tomorrow i will try the following stips: - cleaning the lens very well with a lens cleaner (not just only blowing dust off it by air). - making VERY sure that i connected the data transmission cable of the BD rightly. - bringing back the ps3 original 80GB HDD and formatting it, and trying again. if you have any solutions while i do the stips i mentioned, please tell me. also sorry for the long thread, but i wanted to be specific, so no one asks details questions about my console and/or problems. thanks for advance for any help! |

summorizing
ok, after doing some tests i can summarize my problem:
the blue laser lens is working, when i connect the blueray driver power cables without connecting the data cable, it works fine, the laser works and the disc spins. when i connect the BD data cable (whether the ps3 is on, or while its off then turning it on), the disc stops spinning (if the ps3 were already on) the BR laser turns off, i dont get any "loading circle" on the top right of the screen, no disc icon, nothing, just normal ps3 XMB. so my question is, where is my problem? is it in the blueray driver? or in the ps3 software? ps. sorry my FW is 3.72 |

Could be your bluray logicboard that's given up on ya. Without a working logic board all games(even PSN games) blackscreens. Unfortunately since you are on 3.72 there's no way to re-marry a new board to your drive. Only works up to 3.55. Guess you'll have to send it in for repairs, expensive I guess. Not sure but it sounds like it...sorry

You can remarry a new logic board, but you would need to use progskeet to downgrade. Even with a bad logic board it should play PSN games, unless the RGA chip is damaged.
I would try the new ribbon cable first, could be a simple fix if your lucky. Last edited by playerkp420; 02-16-2012 at 09:44 AM. |

now i will look ofr this ribbin cable thingy, i hope i can find one! if not, and what u say about the logic board is true, then a new ps3 with 3.55 FW is a better choice to me. edit: now my next step i guess before this cable thingy is to formate the harddrive and upload to the lastest firmware, to eliminate any possible software issue. YOUR logic board only works with YOUR mother board and bluray drive. It's a little controller chip on the board that's holding that info.
Replacing the board won't help you, you then need to re-marry it to your system, and that only works up til 3.55. there's also this procedure though it's risky: PS3 controller board BGA swap - YouTube And like I said, broken logic board is just MY guess. The only way to do this when u are on a firmware higher than 3.55, is to use progskeet or teensy++ to downgrade. Usually when the logic board goes bad it is the drive chip on the board and not the chip with the info. So your PSN games would still work. That's why I would think it is the ribbon cable. |

i didnt format or anything, i just updated to the lastest firmware 4.11, the demos i had on my HDD started to work again very fine, i returned to do tests on the Blueray drive, i discovered that while iam connecting everything of the BD (the power and data cable or better to say the ribbon cable) when i start the demo, i get the black screen again, but surprisingly, when i eject the disc (or put the blueray drive in the mode where there is no disc) the black screen resumes and the demo workings fine. so here is a summory: - the demos works fine when the BD is in the "no-inserted-disc" mode. - the demos freeze and black screen again when the data cable (ribbon cable) is not connected. - the blueray laser works fine and the BR disc spins when the data cable (ribbon cable) of the BD is not connected and only power is connected to the BD. so guys, please keep up with me, what do you think the problem is? is it in the ribbon cable? faulty BD, or faulty logic board? |
