Thinking about purchasing backwards compatible PS3...
Couple questions, apologize if they were asked before. I didn't spend a significant amount searching.
1. ) Is it possible or any more difficult to mod an old backwards compatible early model PS3 than it is to mod and newer one? 2. ) If I'm just planning on modding the PS3 to play backup games, is there any reason I would want a backwards compatible model? Would it be able to play PS2 backups? |

There all hackable like each other except for the newer slims
wich you cant hack at the moment like you stated it is just to play ps2 games but they are more likely to get yld on older versions just make sure it is on 3.55 firmware or lower Last edited by stussy1; 02-17-2012 at 11:25 PM. |

Older PS3 are just as likely to get yrod as the newer ones which is very rare and not likely.
If I where to buy a PS3 I would go for a backwards compatible one and buy a larger hard drive. You can play PS2 backups on a backwards compatible PS3 with MultiMAN, You can burn your PS2 games or put them on internal/external hard drive then use MultiMAN play them. I would buy a Cobra USB dongle, Not needed but it has many good features for a backwards compatible PS3. The only advantage of a backwards compatible PS3 is it plays PS2 games, none of the newer PS3 are backwards compatible so, If you're not into PS2 games then there really isn't a reason to buy one.

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually found a backwards compatible used PS3 for $100 so that was a nice snag. Hate to say it in risk of having "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" screamed at me, but can someone give me a link to a guide that would work with an old model?
