Might get a PS3, need some advice!

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 I'm looking for advice.

I want to be able to play backups, somehow. Can I play newly released games using Backups? I just need to burn and play right, with details in the middle.

I'm hearing that new firmware isn't hacked, how long or will it ever be hacked?

Can you play the newest games on backups of CFW?

That's my biggest question.

Is it worth it to get a PS3, what's your opinion?

Thanks,
Bronos

If you happen to purchase a used PS3 that has firmware v3.55 or below you can install a custom firmware without the need of any hardware add-ons (aka modchips) and you can play games that require v3.55 firmware or below, but not above (excluding a handful of 3.xx games that have fixed eboots (aka cracked/hacked). If you purchase a PS3 with 3.56 firmware or above (all new PS3 systems are above 3.55) you will need to purchase a modchip which is installed by opening the PS3 and attaching it to it's motherboard via either a clip device (unreliable) or hand soldering (reliable, learning curve involved). Once attached you can downgrade to v3.55 via very specific processes. No matter what you do you will not be able to play v3.56+ games (excluding the handful of fixed eboots or via the use of a 3.56+ game dongle). There are two v3.56+ game dongles one is the True Blue and the other is a knockoff/clone called the TB King. Both will allow you to play a limited amount of v3.56+ games requiring you to obtain True Blue formatted cracks/hacks or in some cases requiring you to download the entire game pre-cracked (both are illegal, but so is circumventing copy protection aka using CFW, modchips, etc ... in most countries; however downloading entire games carries far more risk then downloading a CFW). Other then that you will need to purchase original games and use a PS3 that has an up-to-date firmware to play them. If you want a single PS3 to be able to use CFW and official firmware (OFW) you can purchase, open and solder onto your motherboard a "dual nand" progskeet device allowing you to switch between your CFW and OFW providing you own two hard drives (one of each firmware).

I hope it helps. Read it twice : )

Sure bud, glad I can help.

I spent some time with a Vita and it's pretty darn impressive and very innovative, but like the PS3 it's initial price is too high and most of the games I tried had terrible loading times. It'll probably get cheaper and lose features down the road, but if it gets a solid J/RPG base then I'll be all over it.

It definitley should soon, a lot of popular titles from Japan are getting on the Vita
- Monster Hunter
- Disgea
- FFX

I loved the PSP anyway till I lost it last year so I guess I'll go Vita. Just hope God Of War and GTA get released on it soon. In the meantime I'll try to get Homebrew on it before the Vita get's patched.

I haven't spent enough time to totally get into the touchpad on the back, but it's not really bothersome as it's not used by many games. It's a little weird, but I could totally see it vastly improving the controls in games if implemented properly. It's a keeper!
