@viljo and @keano

You can use 1 e3 flasher to downgrade multiple ps3's with no soldering(unless you brick) and no need to patch your bios backup.
Here is a guide I wrote to downgrade to any OFW or CFW.

The normal e3 downgrade process is even on ps3devwiki and e3-tech.net E3 FLASHER LIMITED downgrade flow(8 languages):download

Thanks mate that is a great tut you have wrote, based on that I will now order my E3 flasher ( on pay day ).
I take it this e3 file dated the 10-28 is the one other people are talking about that has gone missing from the e3 website ?

Yeah the 10.28.20011 update.bin is the one I use. It will work on any nor too, not just Samsung.

You can get it from the file pack download in my guide.

I have blue lights now, clear visible ones.

I booted into the XMB with all the switches already in their positions ready to update with the update.bin file

Like so: _ _ - - - -

I got no blue lights at all.

I then saw a video showing me something a little different, boot the PS3 to the XMB with all switches down at first. So I did that.

Like so: _ _ _ _ _ _

I NOW GOT BLUE LIGHTS, not still but flashing in the pattern of 1 3 5 7 then 2 4 6 8 etc. (Does that mean somethings happening? Are they meant to be still?)

From the XMB now with the blue lights flashing I made the necessary switch adjustment to do the update.

Like so: _ _ - - - -

I then turned off the PS3 after waiting like 20-30 secs.

Waiting 10-20 secs I turned the PS3 back on with the switches now in update position, and I got my original problem again...

NO BLUE LED's!

The video I am following to do the update e3 Flasher process:
Update E3 Flasher Firmware - Part 1 - YouTube

Summary:
I get blue LED's with all switches Down (alternating as described)
I get NO blue LED's with switches as: _ _ - - - -

Someone tell me whats going on.

P.S. Incase its relevant, the Micro SD im using is a SanDisk 8GB.

If you have the fat ps3 and you're doing it for the first time, follow this tutorial: E3 FLASHER DOWNGRADE TUTORIAL - INSTALLATION FAT (Khalkedon) - YouTube

But if this is your second ps3, then follow the tutorial at the beginning of the thread

The tutorial at the start doesnt help me solve my problem.

I need to know why my e3 flasher is not getting updated despite me following all the instructions im given.

I put in the micro SD to the slot - set the switches - turn on ps3 - and nothing happens

No blue light progress bar appearing.

Only time I see blue LED's at the moment is when all switches are flicked down.

Theres got to be some PS3 hacking genius out there who can help me out on this forum.

I cant get past the update.bin step!

It doesn't take a hacking genius to know that, if your flasher is correctly installed and not working properly, it is most likely defective.

1. I put the update.bin on the root of my sd card (not in a folder).
2. Put sd card in the flasher with the ps3 powered off.
3. Turn the ps3 on and all blue leds light solid.
4. Press reset and blue leds alternate flash.

If your flasher does not do that it is either defective or not installed correctly.

Im assuming if it wasnt installed correctly or it was defective then I wouldnt receive any power on the coverboard, or get any blue lights at all.

I notice a small USB socket on the coverboard, can I use that to substitute for the micro SD to update the flasher?
