i have a PS3 80GB old model (not the slim), i guess it has 2.7 firmware install. it was kept on the cabinet for long time and now i want to go back to playing it again. my question are, how can i jailbreak it so that i can download games and will able to play on it.

pls help me if you have quick help on how to jailbreak this old PS3 with old firmware (2.7 i guess) installed on it, and also it was never jailbreak before.

Update it to firmware 3.55 then install rebug 3.55.2 or kmeaw 3.55 cfw. You can use the search tap and search for the 3.55 ofw(original firmware) and kmeaw or rebug. Enjoy

Thanks for the quick reply, it is this the latest firmware? and latest jailbreak firmware?

can i still play original games and can i still watch movies on external hard disk after i jailbreak?

no its not. 4.11 is so do not update ps3 via internet you must put 3.55 ofw on a usb and install it that way.... and yes these are the latest jailbreaks


yea you can as long as there pre 2011 12
and yea you can and with showtimemedia player you can read almost any video files

thank you all guys, i successfully install the kmeaw CFW and multiman, last night i copy my NBA2K9 (yes its old!) to my HDD and able to play it, so i guess its really successful job i've done on my PS3.

i only have a couple of issue, whenever i play video on my external HDD sometimes the player crush and the the system restart, is there something need to be done here? or its normal?

and also is there any player that can play MKV format? because most of my movies are MKV format.

MKV files are best if you stream them or convert them to AVCHD (or any other PS3 compatible video type)

i used to stream all my mkv format but its like turning on 2 machine to play 1 movie, i have one central storage (external HDD) that i planned to connect to my PS3 so that i can play directly there. if there's now way to play MKV directly to PS3 then i have no option but to convert them or do the streaming. thanks for the info!

update to 3.55 ofw then google the kmeaw 3.55 cfw and install it. id also do the install other os pkg while doing all this. pm me if u need help

I play mkv files from my external hdd, with showtime media player. It is included inside the latest multiman.

yup mkv works with showtime. usually. and streaming isnt always bad. huge movie n music collection on my pc. i like to use my external for games.
