once i used this method when my console was bricked and it worked ,i think its a kind of forced firmware flashing as it installs the firmware without any user interfaces ui or dialogs like what it happens in xmb or receovery menu

just a dumb idea here, but have you tried to flash 3.55 OFW directly? If i'm not mistaken, TechnoDon said that jfw shows 3.56 because it's SPOOFED to show like that (perhaps they themselves added patches in order to prevent downgrade to a version != 3.55). Try a normal 3.55 update from the usb disk. If it hangs at some % , check the error in the wiki and report it here.

Hi zecoxao, you still did not have any chance to ask TechnoDon about what he did to downgrade . . anyway i will do what you said i'll post the error code here,i think there will be 2 codes ,one from trying to flash from the xmb and the other from recovery menu . . or maybe 3.55 will just say that no applicable data found, will post the result soon as for the fact that the jfw is a 3.55 and not a 3.56 i hope it can contribute better in installing the pup file than doing the same thing but on a 3.56 and realizing that with my dumb idead above :-) just in case nothing better comes here |

here is the error code .
when trying to downgrade from 3.56 jfw to 3.55 ofw from recovery menu ps3 will write "Connect a storage media that contains update data version 3.56 or later. and press the start . . . . . refer the the SCE web site for your region." -asks for 3.56 or above- when i go ahead and try to install ofw 3.55 it will say: "checking please wait . . . " stays with that message for 1 minute after it, it will write "The data is corrupted (8002F2C5)" when doing the same thing with rogero cfw v3 it will just do as written above . . . ------------------------------------------------------- when trying to update to ofw 3.55 from 3.56 from xmb it will just say (no applicable update data was found) (so no error code there) when doing the same thing with rogero cfw v3 it will write the following update data was found: version 3.55-Rogero_V3D Location usb device ok Xenter Ocancel X says :"please wait . . . " "copying update data to hard disk . . do not turn off the system. . . " about 60-70% "The data is corrupted. (8002F828)" one thing really curious is that it will give you corrupted data even if you try to re-update on jfw 3.56 with jfw 3.56,that might confirms what TechnoDon said about it ,that it got hacks in it just to not let you switch between firmwares anyone any clue about those errors or how to fix this Last edited by sewershark; 02-28-2012 at 02:07 AM. |

As far as I know, the debug settings (CEX or DEX) is determined in the sysconf_plugin.sprx.
1/ Dump the dev_flash from OFW 3.56 (pupx_dev_flash.exe extracts OFW well) 2/ Get the sysconf_plugin.sprx from dev_flash/vsh/module/ from the OFW 3.56 dev_flash dump. 3/ Use dev_blind to swap the sysconf_plugin.sprx with the one from the dumped from 3.56 OFW 4/ Restart the PS3 and enable debug settings with the QA button combo. You should have the CEX debug settings which has "System Update Debug" Now I'm 99% certain that's the file. But I haven't tested it on JFW3.56 so I it may not work, but your console is QA flagged so it should work. As for what Technodon did, he copied a 3.55 dev_flash over the 3.56 dev_flash and it just 'worked'. Just to be safe if it does work, and you can enable "System Update Debug" you should downgrade to rogero's mfw which has no lv1 syscon hash checks, just in case the syscon still wants to check for 3.56+. Then downgrade from 3.55 downgrade to 3.41 from the recovery menu. Your PS3 should then be fine to install any FW without worrying about syscon bricking your PS3.

Hi,sorry if i make you some questions but i need to be sure to understand those steps the best i can just to avoid getting in a worse situation i am downloading ofw 3.56 right now . . 1/the dump must be done from the ofw 3.56 pup file not from the dev_flash of the internal hdd of the ps3 3/i can copy sysconf_plugin.sprx over ftp from the extracted pup file from my pc to my dev_flash ps3 /after restarting the ps3 is it better to install the fw from xmb or recovery menu /will rogero cfw v3 http://www.ps3hax.net/2012/02/released-rogero-cfw-v3/ be fine as rogero mfw as i can't fine this last one i will try this method but just in case it wont work and(and my console still boot after it:-) can i go ahead and try what TechnoDon did or its better not to do that Last edited by sewershark; 02-28-2012 at 04:16 PM. |

3/ You can copy it over to your PS3 with FTP, but you will need to use a program like dev_blind to mount the the dev_flash so you can write to it. When downgrading QA flagged consoles(qa flag extra) with 'system update debug' enabled, you can only downgrade from the recovery menu yeah rogero cfw v3 is fine (I meant to say cfw before) As for what technodon did, I haven't tried it, so I don't know.
