When you connect to hdmi it will ask you if you can see the picture, if you do not answer it will reset the video for you. Unlike when you connect composite cables and the video is set higher, you get a black screen.

I have had a 100 ps3's in and out of my house in the last year. Every one that I hooked up to my tv with a hdmi cable, immediately said on the screen,

"An hdmi output has been found would you like to keep this output setting"
(well the ones that would display any video)

Didn't OP only want video to show? why is recovery keep being mentioned. Maybe I'm missing something.

If you can not make it to recovery it is either a hardware problem or too low a firmware. Or brick.
The first thing I do when I get a broken ps3 that will not display video, is try to get to recovery menu. Because video will be reset on the way there anyway.

Yeah I know. You end up warping the motherboard. More harm than good.

Oh and I know why when I hook up hdmi I never get black screen. It's because my tv is 1080 and it will only do it if you hook up to a lower resolution than the ps3 is set to. So I always have a higher resolution.

i'll try to reflow it but i doubt it will work. 90% i think is bricked so im waiting for the progskeet solderless adapter. alredy order it. i just got progskeet v1.1 but soldering isn't my strong point
