download files from some link on this thread inside of it you will find a file named
pupx_dev_flash.exe put it in the same exact folder of the fw you want to extract and it will extract it,i don't have any rebug otheros ++,but you can download it or download any other and extract it this way directly to your hard disk, let me know if it works for you

The reason why I need this is because things might have changed in the 1.2.1 service pack, and I don't want to make a broken mod(I'm sure you don't want a broken mod either).

As far as I know there is no way to give Cobra capabilities to other CFW (or in your case JFW). The only way you will be able to boot ps2 ISOs is if you use something like swapmagic with a hdd loader. Swap Magic shouldn't be that hard to find or too expensive.

I should be able to do those other things, do you want the debug icons from the "Playstation Network" column on this mod?

got some other bad news,i copied dev_flash with fev blind of the cobra firmware over jfw,but install packages was not working so i tried to reinstall the service pack as you told me in previuos post ,but it did not take them neither the one you upload it or the one on demonhades website ,i mean when placed them in a usb drive it just ignored them and boot to xmb as normal,so i just recopied jfw dev_flash again with dev blind with comgenie and now guess what, its bricked again

should i repeat the steps i did last time i debricked it or should i try placing it in service mode again and copy and paste its error log here

it doesn't brick when writing its dev_flash with other firmwares dev_flash and it bricks if it is written with its own?

Yeah repeat the steps from the last time you de-bricked your ps3.

2/Make sure the configuration file is set to restore the dev_flash. Though it is in Spanish, here's the Google translation so you can make sense of it.

I would set every one to "0" except for the "#Restore "/dev_flash" source file "/dev_usb000/flash1.bin"" entry

3/Make sure your ps3 is in Factory Service Mode(yours is so continue).

4/Put the usb stick in the port dev_usb000 (closest to the disc drive) and turn on the console.

5/The LED will blink green while working on the restoration, when finished it will turn off by it self.

6/If it works, put the Lv2Diag.self which is used to exit service mode on the USB and exit service mode.
Again, if I am to create a mod of your XMB I will need a copy of your /dev_flash/ directory, from when the PS3 is running service pack 1.2.1 of JFW

i copied it with comegenie to my usb drive ,the file and subdirectories inside are hidden (comhenie copy files as hidden ) window proprieties attribute could not uncheck the option hidden, hope its not a problem . .

Everything's fine, I've finished the basic mods so it should look like the original FW theme. I've replace the coldboot sound and logo with the original ones. Added 'Install package files' and 'app_home' to the game column. I also added debug XMB items to the PSN Column. Is there anything else I can add to the XMB, like 'XMB Manager +', or anything I can remove like 'Playstation Home'. Or anything else?

I really don't know why either. It's quite unusual that it stops you from updating completely.

Okay, it's ready here it is. https://rapidshare.com/files/2560911717/vsh.rar
Instructions:

1/ extract the 'vsh' from the archive above and put it on a USB stick
2/ plug the USB stick in your ps3 and run a file manager (make sure dev_blind is mounted first)
3/ go into dev_blind
4/ delete the 'vsh' folder on the root of dev_blind
5/ copy the 'vsh' folder from USB to the root of dev_blind
6/ restart PS3 and it should be normal again

I've checked everything carefully, so everything should 'work'. But I am only human.

What this should do:
1/ Have 'install packages files' and 'app_home' on the game XMB
2/ removed "PS Home" and "Folding at home"(life with playstation)
3/ added debug items to PSN category
4/ All OFW icons/coldboot/XMB layout
5/ No cinavia DRM on all media except Blu-Ray
6/ Retains JFW vsh.self and nas_plugin.sprx patches to install unsigned packages and run unsigned apps
7/ has DEX debug settings

If anything doesn't work, tell me how 'it' doesn't work. But it is unlikely that it won't work. If it works perfectly tell me.

If it does work you should make a dev_flash backup with Preloader2.

i will try it today, and repost whartever happens

but i wanted to ask as for the swap magic disk to run ps2 on the ps3 mine is jap 60gb version,i was wondering couldn't there be anyway to run its elf file without the actual original cd, also i am pretty sure that once i tried swap magic with mcmm and cobra it ran . . ,problem was it did not display any hdd or usb directories this would make me assume that buying an orignal swap disk for my BC ps3 could really be useless . . . what do you think

I don't have a BC ps3, but people have used Swapmagic to boot lauchelf and it showed the directories. Perhaps you had a bad image.

EDIT: Aren't there ps2 hack discs which boot directly into a hdd game manager?

i made what you told me,ugly icons are still there, soud and logo boot changed ok,but no more install package option, and no boot mounted ps3 game entry either,
there is debug xmb items under platstation network,if you click it

-quick sign up "thats for signing up but it wont work on this old firmware, right ?"
-title store preview (in game) "what is it for ?"
-the title store preview (store) "what it does ?"

i had made a back up of the previous vsh should i put it in place ?

Have you tried changing the theme to 'original'(in the 'Theme Section' of system column). The system theme holds part of the images for icons on the XMB, sorry I completely forgot about that. I made a mistake in the "dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/category_game.xml" replace it with this one

Those are more for show (you can't use them because you can't connect to PSN), they make your XMB complete. If you don't want those extra items overwrite this file "dev_flash/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/category_psn.xml" with this one.
That should fix everything.
