to make usage of egea preloader backup/restore you don't need that advance.cfg.

just copy egea self to upgrade folder either with vflash_dump flag file for backup, or with vflash_restore flag file for restoration.

those flag files have to be opened in hexeditor and put in the corresponding flash regions, eg. in vflash_dump put in 0x04 to backup 4 flash region files. and in vflash_restore put in that same number you backed up, here 0x04 to restore that 4 flash backups.

edit
i have got my first never going rsod on ps3 with this cfw by replacing dev flash files without payload. i wouldn't recommend doing anything on this cfw without active payload. you can even autoload their payload from usb with egea on boot.

too complicated,who mentioned advance.cfg ?
i couldn't understand anything,where is egea file located,vflash dump?you meant dev_flash? 0x04?whats an active payload?

what is this all for anyway, customizing jfw xmb or enabling ps2 games backups? ,could those things be the cause i can't even update to a 4.11 jfw ?

going to try what ps3hen said as he debricked my ps3,but if you think that doing so is going to make my ps3 explode say that clearly :-)
thanks to all

going to replace those files and post results later

on jfw they have included some preloader function, called by a file named egea.self located in any usb in /PS3/UPGRADE/egea.self.

their advance preloader to backup and restore files can be used with an empty flag file either called vflash_dump, to backup the dev flash folders. this file has to be located also with egea.self in /PS3/UPGRADE/vflash_dump

or it is named vflash_restore, to restore the dev flash backups. the flag files have to be opened in hexeditor and you have to put in the number of dev flash folders you want to backup/restore, e.g. if you want to backup/restore 3 dev flash folders put in 03 in hex code.

my default value is 04 for each and it works nice on backup/restore. and after every action, the files in upgrade folder (egea.self, vflash_dump/restore) get deleted automatically on jfw.

I did give him that originally

I'm uploading a mirror of the service pack 1.2.1 which you should be able to use to restore your CFW to be usable again. If you want I could create a custom dev_flash for your PS3 once it is restored to JFW, to make it look like regular CFW in layout.

What the service pack basically does is flash the dev_flash to 1.2.1 of JFW 3.56. (yeah it's confusing). But since your dev_flash is the problem this will be the easiest way to fix it, and I know it works because I used it to upgrade to service pack 1.2.1.

EDIT: But yeah, if you want 3.55 you will need to get a hardware flasher(as it seems current software methods have failed). But JFW 3.56 is still a good CFW.

EDIT2: JFW 3.56 service pack 1.2.1 mirror: https://rapidshare.com/files/3748478...pack_1.2.1.rar
But he said that didn't work.

tried .

service pack wont make the ps3 read the contents (usb led blinks just once)

So I got him to use Preloader2.

Hi,ugly icons are still there after i changed themes and replaced xmls with dev blind

but the real problem is that when trying to run iris manager it will say

"the system software of your ps3 system is version 3.56. to start.you must update to version 99.99 or later.
do you want to update now ?"

chosing no will close the program, choosing yes will ask me to update via storage media or online

did not try to run iris before changing those files,so i can't tell you if it ran before , i tried gaiamanager ,but when i did the ps3 started beeping and turned off with red led blinking, when pressed the power button it stopped blinking and stayed red, when pressed again it started normally . . (hopefully it did not brick another time :-) )

so no backup manager can run at the moment

openftp ,showtime ,devblind and comgenie open normally

if this can be of any help lets try to install jfw to its defaults and keep it this way for the next 3 -6 months if mad will ever be released in this period or other jfw downgraders i will soft downgrade it (that might be the reason why i'd better keep it with defaults values to get more compatibility chances if any downgrader will ever be released ) otherwisein the meanwhile i'll search for someone whom can downgrade it with a flasher and send the ps3 to him

@sewershark
hang in there buddy , I'm also on JFW 3.56 and i also have nand console.

Actually @bartez82 was talking about me i mean I'm the guy He's trying to help with this sh***y firmware. (If you are reading this - zdrowia kolego)

and @ps3hen in the name of all people who can't downgrade with e3 cuz they have nand and are on 3.56 thanks for your attention and help in this topic.

Just wanted to say this to you.

Although as i read this whole topic i noticed that @sewershark did not try to to copy the dev_flash from a 3.55 CFW , he just did this with 3.55 OFW dev_flash or maybe i've did not see this in this topic.
Anywho.... maybe there is still a hope?

Anyway I'm in slightly better situation then @sewershark because I've found 1 literally ONE person in my country who can downgrade both NAND and NOR , although he is a bit far from my city and it costs nearly 55 € but it is always better and cheaper than buying another ps3 , if only this guy would be in my city i would had already done it.

Regards to all

So the theme is being stubborn? Try this. It is a ps3 theme I made using icons from OFW 3.56. Copy "OFW 3.56.p3t" to a usb stick in the "/PS3/THEME/" path. And install this theme on your ps3. The apply this theme and you should have OFW icons

That sounds like a mistake in iris manager's param.sfo. Can you upload the param.sfo here

The beeping and turning off is due to (I think) syscall/"peek and poke" incompatibility. You can't use Gaia Manager or that version of Gaia Manager with JFW.

If the theme still shows those ugly icons can you make a video of you changing the themes on your PS3 and you browsing the XMB so I can see for myself what is happening on your PS3.

Thanks . You could copy a 3.55 CFW dev_flash, but you would only get the Interface of that CFW, it would still have the core os of 3.56 JFW. And using a 3.55 CFW dev_flash with 3.56JFW core os might give some unexpected compatibility problems. Once I get this thing working for sewershark, It will create an alternative for those on 3.56 JFW

the same param.sfo worked when jfw was with default values,i would just ignore the ugly icons and try to restore defualts values for everyting there as my main aim was to downgrade but if thats not possible i don't want to waste your time in anything else unless obviously you would like me to make some experiments on my ps3 just to post results so we can make fixes or alternatives xmb for others ,have nothing wrong with that . . but kindly let me also know a possibly secure/almost secure way to let me restore a defualt ,standard and common jfw 3.56 ma ,just to make sure if in the future there will be any fixes or downgrades for the masses ps3 jfw my ps3 will be included with them and wont behave strangely when i apply those future homebrews (just in case they ever get released . . . )

going to post the video you asked soon,by the way you said that pasting over dev_blind will not make changes over core os . . . just to know . . in theory what should be overwritten to remove jfw completely within the protected folders visible in a ftp client connected to the ps3 or comgenie file explorer

to get rid of their xmb category icons, you CAN copy the original 3.55 icontex.qrc to folder located in dev_flash/vsh/resource/qgl, as these files are sdk independent. though 2 rcos are filled with their own icons, but mostly explore_plugin_full

you can also use their icontex.qrc on 3.55 cfw

about the iris manager, you have to use either their v3 MA, or their final v4 pkg and with it this syscall 36+8 v2 addon pkg. but i would not recommend playing with devflash unless you have a payload running. either start up first iris v3 or v4 final before changing devflash files. i had rsod after playing with this and trying their masreact.
