CFV don't even touch these files. Principle of operation is really easy. It calculate checksums, compare it to checksums writed in database and if match display on screen specific information. Nothing special, really. And this is why in readme we write that programs doesn't contain any keys.

We explained in readme file how this program works but many people still don't understand what exactly CFV do and what is his main purpose. There are a few unpleasant comments on several sites said this is useless crap because there are only few CFW, support only a few firmwares etc. This is NOT true. Custom Firmware Validator support all CEX OFW, all leaked SEX, DEX and DECR OFW and all known to us CFWs (more than 50). This give us support for ~200 firmwares! In the future could support any other firmwares, and adding this is quick and easy without whole application update - all needed information are on external XML databases.

In other simpler words, using CFV:

• You cannot flash your console by fake firmware. In first days of CFW on PS3, many bastards linked higher OFW as CFW and some people have been fooled by them, ending with non software downgradable OFW. This application protect you from such situation.
  
  
• You cannot misleading one CFW with another, modified by someone else than author of this CFW. This application gave you confidence that scaned CFW is the release CFW, not modified by someone else.
  
  
• You can transfer OFW/CFW directly to your USB device. It even detect if file system is FAT32 but not only! Also detect if this FAT32 is on MBR (which is only one support by PS3) or GPT and other not supported table format.
  
  
• You can go to authors webpage if it's linked in database.
  
  
• You can take more user friendly information about firmware (like properly working Trophy system, Cinavia DRM patched, protecting from ACT.DAT deleting etc.).

All of this in one simple app with (i hope) interesting user interface.

In future releases (not only database updates) we could implement language choosing. It depends of course if community want it. For now, i could only a request all of you to translate database to others languages (firmware descriptions: <DESC></DESC>).

We put into this little application really much effort, especially on GUI side. If you don't like it and/or don't want use it - for God sake - don't say it's useless only because it's not your precious CFW 9.99 launching games from PS4, X720 and WiiWe... As someone before me said: exploits don't grow on a trees! PS3 security is not an easy libcrypt stuff like on PSX but really tough cryptographic ecosystem. If you think it's so easy go ahead, find one, find your precious keys or build your Star Trek quantum computer cluster and broke digi sigs by brute force - and we all gonna be happy, glorify you for eternity. Until then, don't say anything which making devs frustrated (even if those devs are not a k3rnel hax0rs :P).
