You would only be limited to the HDD Studio method; now, if you are on firmware version 3.55. Unless of course you use Graf's other exploits...... But those would be irrelevant to you if you are on firmware version 3.60+ (Or just generally speaking; being the average user).

How do you connect your HDD to your PC? I think that it's probably a noob question but I'm a semi-noob.

You can connect the ps3 hdd to your pc with a sata cable. My pc has sata ports on the motherboard and there is another plug that looks like a bigger sata plug for the power.
