With xLink Kai you only can play with people on cfw, because it takes a cfw ps3 to use it.

Yeah If you had two PS3's, you can use one to update to current fw and the other cfw

hi all,sorry to highjack the thread but i have been given 2 ps3's, one had ylod which i have sorted but the dvd drive needs remarrying and the other just needs the dvd drive remarrying, they are both chechc03 and one is on fw 4. 11 and the other is on fw 3. 72. so as i understand it i need to downgrade the firmware to 3. 55 or lower to be able to get into factory service mode and remarry the drives? if so can you please tell me if the e3 flasher limited is what i need, i don't want to be doing any soldering as i need to do 2 consoles plus more in the future, i am new to this but think i can do it and want to learn, now do i also need a dongle to get it into service mode after the downgrade? i have a t-flash card reader, would that work? or does it need to be an e3 card reader? is there a solderless progskeet available? maybe you could link me to what i need, cheers for any help

also if you have an e3 flasher then can't you downgrade to do what you want then go back to 4.11 to play online?

Btw I don't know why your are asking in my thread but yes the E3 Flasher Limited Edition supports Downgrade from 4.11 to 3.55 and you can even go after from 3.55 to 3.41. It does not require soldering on SLIM PS3 but it does on Phat. By the way, if you brick your console, the only way to fix it will be soldering so follow the steps carefully if you don't want this to happen.
PS: When you will have to restore to 3.55, ONLY USE the firmware given on e3-tech.net or Rogero v3.1 ONLY

How does it take a cfw ps3 to use xlink kai? xlink kai uses the LAN option to join people together that are not on the same LAN. Any game with a LAN option, regardless of FW, can be played over xlink kai. Most OFW users do not do this, because what is the point when they have PSN

I take it you were not around for PS2 online. Ever hear of code magic? Also PC gaming still isnt anywhere near as popular as console gaming. Cheat on a PC game and yes you are probably getting banned. Valve is constantly making improvements to VAC. Cheat on the Playstation, and you will probably be ok because Sony doesnt give a flying **** about customer satisfaction. They are just concerned with how to squeeze more money out of people, and who to sue, or blame **** on next, and of course which features to remove next. When MFW users did have PSN access, all Sony did was send out threats, but I never heard of anyone actually getting banned. I got their little threat email, and continued to log in with MFW, and nothing ever happened to me. Notice how the topic is asking about online with 3.55. That is kind of a direct statement dealing with PS3. I never said mod users shouldnt be online, I said MFW users shouldnt be on PSN.

Point being that there are a **** ton more 13 and unders that will do whatever to gain an advantage on PSN. These kids probably dont have gaming PCs, and have probably already been banned from xbox live for achievement glitching, marketplace theft, accepting CoD CLs etc. So PSN is the only thing left, and Sony doesnt care.

If you want to play online and support PSN (and game developers) = Stay Legit.
Otherwise keep on CFW and use xLInkkay. Sony have their own policies that won't share with the rest of the *world* compare PSN with LIVE and you will see BIG difference.
Now Compare those two with PC Gaming Online and you will see a huge gap.
PSN is *bleeding* and left for dead...it's what i think, and bobby has a valid argument there about gaming in general.
