Angry Is there any way to view recorded videos by Sony BRAVIA TV on a PC?

BRAVIA TV's USB HDD Recording is quite a peculiar one, once you use your usb drive to record stuff it is basically bricked until you "deregistered" it with the TV. I was hoping to convert some old family videos to digital using this feature but it is pretty much useless like this, and even more so with the FAT file system limitation.

I was wondering does anyone know of a way to access the recorded videos on a computer? (TV is a KDL 55NX720)

thanks

As with the way Sony deals with "your" products, I'm not surprised they would do that. As I'm not familiar with your TV I don't know the process, but I'm sure it can be done. Side note have you tried a transfer cable? (USB to USB)

If your goal is to convert old videos to digital, your better off getting a TV tuner card for your PC. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I actually like Sony TVs. I may not like Sony, or they way they treat customers, but they have made some really nice TVs. I however will stick to Samsung.

I did a quick google search and found this information.
http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/iManuals...ec_europe.html

Sadly it seems you cannot do crap with that HDD unless it is plugged into the TV.

Hm maybe a modded TV firmware can solve such a problem although I do not know if such a mod exists or if it is recommended.

Honestly I do not think I would risk flashing a shady firmware to my expensive TV. You brick a console, well you brick a console. If you brick a TV, then you will not be able to see your PS3, 360, PC, cable etc. I have never seen a TV CFW, but I have never looked for one, or even bothered to look to see if they exist

On my LG TV I have a CFW that allows me to use the USB port for music/video/audio. I wish there was a way I could record stuff though. There must be something, the thing is that you have to enable it... I'm pretty sure that if the firmware fails or its bad you can boot your TV into DFU mode and flash an older/other firmware transparently, your are not restricted compared to consoles, downgrading is possible with no hacks.

I have the same on my LG mate, although it's not really a CFW, but a third party
patch to give me back the features LG disabled due to the Sony law suits against LG if I remember correctly lol

I have another LG TV though that i'm not able to find a way to do it, I wish I was... It's M2394D (3.04 FW), I'm pretty sure it has the feature hidden but I don't know on which firmware and what trick I must do...
