What exactly do you need to do to an Xbox to get it to the point playing backed up games ( not in detail) just because you list a few prices for different things and I've not any clue about 360 hacking... Do you need to pay all them prices or are they different methods ?

I'll go through the different mods

RGH= Replacement of JTAG hack basically, allows UNSIGNED code to be ran, will allow similar things to be done that a jailbroken ps3 can do. Emulators,Homebrew backup gamestc. But since its unsigned code vs signed code with keys found on ps3, new keys are never needed so NEW games will always work. You can play the backup games off ext or int HDD, of a disc,or even over network with game on HDD on PC. NOT LIVE SAFE

RGH+DUALNAND= Basically same as above, but you have 2 seperate nands. allows you to flip a switch and boot to stock NAND, so you can play on live with your retail discs, or burnt copies (if drive is flashed which i include in every RGH install. The flip switch and boot back to RGH NAND. CAN BE LIVE SAFE

Flashed Drive=Allows games to be burnt to Dual layer dvd, and be played on the xbox, this method can be used to play backups on live and it is mostly safe, but newer games (basically GOW3 or newer) need a Lite-ON ihas b pc burner, with custom pc burner FW and verbatim discs to be live safe backup copes. But older games can be burned with and brand and burner.
CAN BE LIVE SAFE

Xkey=Is a ODDE (optical disc drive emulator) so basically what this does is emulate the xbox 360's dvd drive. You connect a EXT HDD to the xkey, with your backed up games ISO's on it. Then you select the ISO from the xkey's menu, and the xbox thinks the game disc was injected into the console.
This has not had many reported LIVE bans after the latest xkey FW, which is much more live safe. It isnt confirmed live safe, but i personally used it on live for awhile with no problems, and so have others

If you dont care about LIVE the RGH is definitely the best for you, if you do want live, well then you decide.
