just to be on the safe side, when updating e3 flasher via usb, i put the update.bin on the root of the fat32 usb on any usb slot of the ps3, and the blue lights will all flash right?

btw check your hdmi connection happened to me once and to be safe reopen your ps3 and check all your cables because since the ps3 is on, it would seem that its still working

OK thought I would try and downgrade my 2nd PS3 but made a mistake ( sorting the kids out )

At this part

Put the e3_downgrade.bin file on your sd card. Insert sd back into flasher.
Set switches 1 - 5 down and 6 up.
Press reset, then start. Wait for the blue lights again. When done lights alternate blink.
Turn power off on PS3.
Power on PS3 to XMB. You should get a screen that says "Plug in controller to USB and press PS button"

What I did was after using the e3_downgrade.bin and it completed instead of booting back onto the xmb and then pulling the power I went straight to inserting downgrade dongle and then usb with rogero but after waiting ages I had no choice but to restart PS3 and no all I have is a black screen, it boots up and power lights stays on but screen all black.

Sorry it actually boots up for about 10 seconds then goes off. Looks like it is bricked. Can I recover a PS3 that was on 4.11 ?


I don't believe this its done it again on another PS3 I got, that's two bricked in one night, this time I followed the guide perfect but when I put Lv2diag.self and R_CFW_3.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP on usb stick PS3 shut down within 10 seconds and now just a black screen when booted and shuts down within 10 seconds.

Just a update for the 2nd PS3, its not as bad as the first one. I get to the point where it says "Connect the controller using a USB cable, and then press the PS button."
Now I switch off and insert downgrade dongle and then rogero cfw on usb stick but after 10 seconds PS3 shuts down and nothing is read from USB stick because there is no log.

Any ideas ?

What will happened if I connect the controller ? I can't do anything else you see.

Funny thing is first PS3 was on 3.70 that downgraded OK but these two are on 4.11 and have both gone wrong at the same point.

Can you enter recovery menu? If you can choose option 6. And if it says install 3.55 or higher use rogero v2.

If everyone follows the unbrick guide I posted in post #183, it should get you back to rogero cfw. If u are having problems with rogero v3.1, then use rogero v2 instead.

After finishing setting the switches 1+2 down and the rest up, connect the E3 Flasher to computer though USB port and switch on the PS3. An icon of drive named KernelBoot will appear on the PC (if no such icon appears, press the reset button). Copy the update.bin file onto this drive, all LEDs of the progress bar will light up indicating that the upgrade has succeeded.

Did you rename the R_CFW_3.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP = PS3UPDAT.PUP

I am not sure what happens if you connect the controller. I have never tried. If you see that screen you should be able to continue with the guide.

Yes I renamed R_CFW_3.1_PS3UPDAT.PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP

Just to let you know if you press PS button then you get message system can not start correctly insert USB with 4.11 and press select and start together.

Any way I did this and no joy comes back with data is corrupt message and PS3 wont start.


Is there a problem with downgrading from 4.11 ? Its just that two models one CECHL and one CECHM both failed at the same stage.

Just an update, both phats are bricked for now and have nothing but black screens and shut down after a few seconds.

Today I got a slim of ebay with 3.60 and following the guide again I get to the same point and stuck.
Got the please press PS button on the controller message so I turn off and insert e3 card reader with downgrade bin into upgrader section then put it into right usb port and press start and eject quickly then ps3 shuts down i then insert usb with rogero cfw and Lv2.diag.self of course rename PS3UPDAT.PUP but after about 10 seconds PS3 shuts down and nothing happened.

WTF first PS3 works first time two weeks ago following guide and now I buy 3 more PS3 and all them are screwed. I just dont get it


Sorry forget that I have just got the slim working now on rogero CFW.

hi thanks a lot, i succesfully updated, though i always keep having the same sd card error even though its fat 32 and correctly put, can i use the kernelboot to backup the firmware? cause its not being read when i do the back up switch combination, maybe theres another combination of switches

Can I ask has anyone done the downgrade with success on 4.11 ?

It because I have done two PS3 with success one with 4.00 and the other with 3.60 but two failed and bricked and both these on 4.11
