So my PS3 slim just came in the mail today. And to my surprise it's already version 3.55! But... in order to sign into my PSN account I have to update to the latest software version. That's a real dilemma. Especially when I have a Vita that I'd love to remote play on it. Do I have to sacrifice one to enjoy the other? Meaning, if I want to enjoy the fruits of free PS3 gaming do I have to give up my want for Vita remote playing and all the newest stuff with the latest software version?

Well you can remote play to the vita on 3.55. deank posted about it in a thread. You basically trick the ps3 into thinking the vita is a mobile phone. You are missing a lot of features by not staying a CFW. Once you realize everything you can do with MFW, please do not make a thread "how can I downgrade from latest OFW" Sorry, but we see that question 300 times each day, and besides PSN is a ghost town now Even OFW users(well my friends) dont use PSN much.

Man... I really wanted to play Journey too. Okay, since my system is already 3.55 do I simply just buy a dongle and I'm good to go?

I would upgrade before I bought that butt plug dongle....or better yet leave the ps3 on MFW and buy a 360 for newer games A dongle will cost you what you can get a used 360 for, and you can get plenty of warez on that

Man, the amount of threads that occur daily with "how do I downgrade my PS3, I'm not on 3.55" is crazy and let's just say that there are a lot of people who envy you right now lol.

Easier said than done. Feels kinda naked with little to no content to play at the moment. Which is the best method to go about playing free games on this thing? I take it I don't need an E3 flasher to put inside of it. And you folks seem to be against dongles. As a noob, what am I supposed to do now?

See if someone who is on OFW wants to swap. You could probably get some extra $$$ out of the deal too.

My advice would be stay on 3.55 if you want homebrew/warez, and update if you *really* have to play online. Just remember, it's a one-way street for now, and as console die off, CFW PS3s are getting more scarce. But the most important thing, and I cannot stress this enough: DON'T buy a true blue dongle. The people behind that are slimey opportunistic sh*tbags who are killing this scene.

no E3 flasher needed unless u want to siwtch between OFW and CFW (dont know if E3 does dual booting)... if you want to play most of the latest games released on cfw- get the dongle. If you dont want the latest games but still want to play the hundreds of games released before 3.6x. just install a CFW and enjoy.
