That PS1 looks so off...

Is it a knockoff or something?

Has anyone tried with a previously qa flagged console, that has then been updated to 4.11?

I'm assuming this thread is still open, because we are waiting for someone to try it that way.

Like i said in previous posts, I have extra ps3, and extra hard drives. I have already tried the method with 2 different games.

I could downgrade with my e3 flasher, qa flag, and update back to 4.11, to prove it won't work. Seems like a lot of work for nothing though.

But will try if no one else wants to try.

I am actually talking about this btw:

I believe you, I had a similar experience before. I was on the latest firmware at that time it was 3.70. I was messing around purposely corrupting my firmware install by not letting the firmware finish installing. I'd let it install a little then I would pull the power plug out.

I'd do that a few times then I got that same message that you got in the pic you posted. I put 3.55 ofw on an usb stick then to my surprise it installed.
I then tried cfw 3.55 and that also installed.

I never tried it again so I don't know If it will work again..

Send a message via MSN to DaveOMac
Right, I have purposely corrupted my 250GB HDD, popped Fifa 11 (BLES01059) in the bluray drive and shoved 4.11 on the usb. Done the format, started the firmware update it didn't stop at 50-53% and blank screen, it completed fine. PS3 restarted and it is on 4.11. I have a phat PS3 that has never been QA flagged or anything (I don't think - brought it secondhand).

Now off to redownload all my stuff.

Nice one for trying it, it seems the only way it might be true is if it's on a fluke basis :/.

That was my intention, I wanted to brick it, that ps3 was my backup that I didn't care about.

I'm not going to show proof and I don't give a crap If anyone believes me or not I just wanted to say I believe the OP and I had a similar experience.

What I did,

I was on ofw 3.70 I went into service mode.
I put ofw 3.70 on a usb stick and started to install it.
let it install a little bit then I pulled the power plug out, I did this a few times.
Then I got a similar message mirkie posted.
I then put 3.55 ofw on the usb stick and installed it.
Then I put 3.55 cfw on the usb stick and installed that.

There you go, believe me or not I don't care.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, what I did might brick your ps3 so don't try it unless you don't care.

I have a theory which is probably completely wrong but I'll throw it out anyway...
PS3s have 2 versions of FW stored in flash, ros0 and ros1. I *think* ros1 contains the version that the console shipped with, to prevent downgrading (at the service center) to a lower version than the hardware supports. In extremely rare cases, when flash gets corrupted, instead of bricking it loads the ros1 recovery menu. In this case, maybe syscon gets confused and just allows installation of whatever version matches the ros1.

Seriously, I've read several versions of the same story; someone get's the "Cannot start..." error, they put the current FW on a USB drive but forget to take a disc out and it flashes whatever's on the disc, as long as it's the same version as in ros1. An accidental, completely flukey downgrade. I suppose if we knew more about how this happens we could exploit it without any risk of a brick, NOR model PS3s would be safer to test with because the majority of FW is on the HD (although for my theory to be remotely possible, a bit of flash would have to be corrupt too, or possibly even a non-fatally corrupted syscon to cause the confusion in the first place)

This is kind of like throwing a million bricks into an open area and hoping they fall stacked up as a house.
