What I did,

I was on ofw 3.70 I went into service mode.
I put ofw 3.70 on a usb stick and started to install it.
let it install a little bit then I pulled the power plug out, I did this a few times.
Then I got a similar message mirkie posted.
I then put 3.55 ofw on the usb stick and installed it.
Then I put 3.55 cfw on the usb stick and installed that.

There you go, believe me or not I don't care.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, what I did might brick your ps3 so don't try it unless you don't care.
Anyone else willing to try this out?

PS3s have 2 versions of FW stored in flash, ros0 and ros1. I *think* ros1 contains the version that the console shipped with, to prevent downgrading (at the service center) to a lower version than the hardware supports. In extremely rare cases, when flash gets corrupted, instead of bricking it loads the ros1 recovery menu. In this case, maybe syscon gets confused and just allows installation of whatever version matches the ros1.

Seriously, I've read several versions of the same story; someone get's the "Cannot start..." error, they put the current FW on a USB drive but forget to take a disc out and it flashes whatever's on the disc, as long as it's the same version as in ros1. An accidental, completely flukey downgrade. I suppose if we knew more about how this happens we could exploit it without any risk of a brick, NOR model PS3s would be safer to test with because the majority of FW is on the HD (although for my theory to be remotely possible, a bit of flash would have to be corrupt too, or possibly even a non-fatally corrupted syscon to cause the confusion in the first place)

This is kind of like throwing a million bricks into an open area and hoping they fall stacked up as a house.
That sounds possible, ROS0 and ROS1 do hold a copy of the core os. But i'm not willing to put that much faith in my ROS1 to attempt a downgrade, who knows if it is from my base fw or the latest fw. And what about all those people who had loss of power when installing updates all they got was a RLOD

Yea ros sometimes screws up and boots wrongly still, i dont think its that for me its the qa flag, the guy that sais he had a way yo test it out, wtf are you eaiting for, just do it nobody is going to do it for you.

Finally major disaster stop being a noob 3.73 firmware can't gp into service mode

Also to exploit such thing we would need to put a flag on boot to boot the older coreOS versio assuming thay its the coreOs that it keeps on the ROS

In this case close the thread. I am not risking to do it again. It's not my PS3.
You're sh*tting this whole ****ing thread. If you can do it better, then do it!

Be happy that I share such thing.

He said "the guy that sais he had a way yo test it out, wtf are you eaiting for, just do it nobody is going to do it for you."

He did Not say it was you, and if you bothered to read your own f*cking thread you would have seen that.

Stop throwing your teddy like a c*nt and grow up

*Rant over, but still f*cked off with pillocks*

EDIT Addendum to rant #1

The whole title of this thread is ridiculous. You have Not found a way to downgrade, at most you hit upon luck, but as you cannot even state the exact circumstances which caused the downgrade then in all honesty, it is virtually a waste of time. Add to that the fact that you expect praise and others to attempt to duplicate it at the risk of their own consoles then you are worse than a troll, you are weak and pathetic.

The Best, and I DO mean Best title for this thread should have been "I have downgraded a console, but not sure how. Can I get help to understand?"

*Official end of rant now*

Have another look at it then, it gets better

I gave you the benefit of the doubt in an earlier post in this thread, but ALL you do is whine and complain that you are not being treated with the praise and respect you think you deserve.

Actions earn respect, not bleating about it, learn this simple fact and you just may get the respect you say you deserve.

If you would care to read i didn't talk about you, and what the hell are you doing here? whenever you were asked to provide proof, you vanished, and i know why, because you can't reproduce it can you?? you can't do it again, i bet you have tried in other ps3's as well and its killing your brain, not being able to do it again, meanwhile we are here, making a theory out of a fluke, just because rautz remembered to mention QA flag (thanks rautz) anyway at least do one thing useful and ask your friend which firmware it came on when he got it, so we know if it could have been QA flagged.

Again to the poster that said he had an E3 flasher and could test this out please sir do, Qa flag your 3.55 firmware update to 4.11 and try to downgrade, also be carefull the firmware on the retail disk can't bypass the syscon, but you will be ok i think since qa flag is in efect (or so we think, just hope it is).
