The only time the BD disc is access before or right when firmware flashing is taking place, it's to look for the update pup. Nothing more, nothing less. The game has no direct, or indirect effect on what firmware can be installed. The disk doesn't even access the flash. It never has, and from the way things are going, never will. I call BS on this one. If it asks for 4.11, it's gonna want 4.11 or later. After 3.56, Sony put checks in place to verify the firmware pup. It doesn't change in the recovery menu or anywhere else except when hardware flashing.

You can't software downgrade past 3.60. 3.56 is the exception, but you need to QA flag the PS3 while on 3.55.

Just did a test on my cechp01 (160GB phat) It's QA flagged with System Software Update Debug set, and running 3.55cobra (yes, I know, hypocrite, right? I bought the cobra dildo to play backup ps2 games on my cecha01, which happened to completely die last week, so I'll be selling it soon)

Anyway, went into recovery, System Software Update with Uncharted 2 Among Thieves in the drive and 3.55OFW in the USB drive. The BD update seems to take priority, as it installed 2.80 from the disc. Wacky! (and no, I'm not going to update to 4.11 and try again)

The Update Manager looks on the BD disc first for the firmware pup. If it can't find one, then it searches the USB ports from right to left, so that's why it started installing the 2.80 firmware first. If you weren't QA flagged, it would install the 3.55 firmware pup.

^^ yes yes, i hope you didn't read the first post and jumped right into posting, cause there is a reason for this thread to be open, we are actually making sure that some sort of soft qa didn't stay active (even if there is no qa menu) we are making sure that qa isn't active (cause we all know QA flagged machines read update from Disc drive).

Is there any way to check if you're QA'd on 3.60+ firmwares? I know it's been explained before that while the flag stays, the token has been changed on >3.55, but this is speculation, right?

I think QA stays when you update, but you can't access the menu with the button combo. If you try the button combo on a QA'd ps3 that has been updated you get a slight glitch/freeze on the xmb, but you don't with a non QA'd ps3.

Anyway I'm going to try QA on one of my ps3's then update to 4.11, format the hdd, and try this out. I don't have fifa 11, i'll try with gt5 prologue, which should be under 3.55.
