What about a newbie forum?

Hi I am new here.

What about a beginners forum here.

I am a little daunted with these forums and unsure where to ask beginner type questions. A "you can ask stupid questions here" area. I think this may help focus people like in in one area.

Just a suggestion...

Anyway off to post some newbie questions in the general area.

newbie questions can go right ahead in the help section

specific questions can go in their related sections

most beginner questions can be answered by using the search option

I see the point though. If he came here and didn't know where to ask those things and/or search and/or what to do, other people would most likely not either.

You can post in help section like @japsander said, no need of a newbie section.

I can honestly say I do not think anyone would want to moderate a section like that. That is where you deal with the name calling, the people that make demands, and the people that cant read. A section like that would be a nightmare

I did miss the help section when I first posted. I suppose that is a newbie section really. We had a friendly welcome section but I didn't want to ask in there. I was a little unsure where to post.

99% of this site is a newbie forum. I made a guide with 3D aspect images and I still get questions. That said, try the search feature...odds are that any question you have has already been answered a hundred times. Actually, odds are that your first two questions are answered by the banner at the top of the page.

10% of the users don't understand a word of english. They have to use google translate/babelfish/etc.
I still think that the banner it's not a solution, even if you put some dinamic content on it.
So the Odd thing if X user understands english and is his native language = register in the forum to make the same question when the answer it's in front of his/her eyes..Why to ask?.

Solution:

Maybe making a *lite* popup version of the banner as test (eventually will be blocked by the browser) telling the current scene status or something like that will be more effective. I saw tons of sites that use a popup as ads or to say something about the content of the site itself and that popup window cannot be blocked.

While I somewhat agree that a newbie forum might be a good idea at FIRST, I think it would just lead to headaches and problems.

You can get all the information from using the search, or even asking a question in help. That's what the forum is for, that's what our helpful users/members/staff are for

I would like to say that maybe something can be put into the rules that you read when you sign up but most people don't even read those. It's hard to try and help people to help themselves when they don't want to help themselves :P

A bit more clear and concise banner may help some of the frustration, but again, you can only say/do so much and make it so easy for people.

I think that popup version of the banner it's not a bad idea at all, the problem is VB.
