Yeah KB, you hit the answer: The problm was I assume both chips are the same ('cause the man at the store told me so):the ne555 was mentioned in this post but I even din't know I was using it. After failures I start google it and find that 5 v is the min for it. I don't think I can find a TLC555 around so I will try the 5V version with my NE555. I have to add those 2 caps you mention but do you have a diagram (even a drawing one) to use? One of those caps replace the 0.1uF cap? the center wire from the POT I understand is the black. That´s the one you said? Thanks again for your time.

You shouldn't need a diagram for this...the 100uF cap will connect between the ground and the 5V output from the voltage regulator. The 10uF cap will go between the ground and the black wire at the top of the last image of the guide.

I have a slightly different problem with my PS3. My fan goes to top speed or pretty close to it very easily and never goes back down. It started with games that really push the CPU or GPU like Red Dead Redemption or Force Unleashed.
I opened my system and replaced the thermal paste with Arctic Silver V. i was expecting to find a bunch of dust and cat hair but it was almost totally dust free and there wasn't a hair to be found. I then ran the system for a few hours a day to watch movies and to play some less graphically intense games for the break-in period recommended by Arctic Silver. After that I tried Red Dead and SSX and once again the fan kicked up to high speed almost immediately. I was thinking that maybe the temperature sensor is malfunctioning and the system thinks it's hotter than it actually is. Especially after reading some of KillerBug's posts about the fan usually running too slow. I am thinking the next step would be to mod my system like KillerBug's custom system from his blog. Does anyone have any other suggestions? KillerBug, do you think you could help me duplicate your project? |

'cause thanks to it your PS3 have not reached a critical TEMP. The AS5 step was a good one, and with this proyect or the fan controller by Killerbug (http://www.fixmypcdoctor.com) your fan will operate in a more quiet mode... That`s my opinion...

I want to thank killerbug for this awesome and useful mod and ask a question. I'm not quite sure if now the fan gray cable is only connected to the mod (TLC555 pin 3) and not to the mainboard anymore. If so I guess the 3rd pin from mainboard where originally went the gray cable is now empty (connect to nothing). Is that correct or I did something wrong?
About my results, I now have a fixed fan speed I can control from the 100K pot. Good for now but if there is any improvement, I'm all ears. Last edited by neogio; 06-25-2012 at 10:10 AM. |

Yeah...that third wire from the mb goes unused. As for something more, you might check out my modded ps3.
