CFW/Jailbreaking

ok, let me begin by saying that i am a complete NooB with all this CFW / Jail Breaking idea, i think the CFW applies to your system, mine being 4.11 as i have just installed this, Jail Breaking, i believe is some sort of hacking that allows you to play games from the HD or from burned discs (not really sure). Now, i have read several things about all of this and i am right where i started off from, the beginning and lost. I cannot connect my PS3 to the internet so therefore i cannot download anything via the PSN, but to update my firmware, i downloaded from Sony and put it on to my USB flash drive. After extensive research and mostly confusion, i have been trying to download the Jail Breaking CFW but all i get is stupid redirects and forms to fill out. My babysitter who is only 20 told me about Jail Breaking my PS3 as it would be safer to back up all my games because of the kids, i agree to this, but with these stupid redirects and forms to fill out, where do i go next. I hasten to add, i have also seen questions regarding installing CFW 3.55, what, if anything, would this do to my PS3. I believe my PS3 is what you all call a 'Phat' as it is not a slim version. Also, when i play Blue Ray discs, some will work and others won't, what can i do to fix this problem. The Blue Ray discs are all original's, therefore they should work, they did when i had a Blue Ray player and i was told that the PS3 plays Blue Ray, so i sold out the Blue Ray player and bought this PS3.

Regards

Dray

Try reading some guides. Anything past 3.55 cannot be cracked into. The only way is downgrade, by use of a device that 'flashes' older firmware onto your PS3. These devices are a tad expensive, and they require soldering skills to install.

If some Blu Ray discs play and others don't, I suggest contacting Sony, as they may have a work-around for you.

You will need a dongle (Trueblue, JB King, etc.) to play games that require 3.6x+ CFW as well.

A dongle? Is that some sort of USB flash drive, and if so, will this let me play burned discs of my back up games, or do i have to install on the HD of the PS3. Sorry for not knowing, but this is all new to me.
Another query regarding these 'dongles' i read that they are not compatible with newer firmware, is this true, i seen somewhere that they do not work above CFW 3.50. I don't want to burn $40-$50 on a dongle for it not to work.

Regards

Dray
