Software Downgrading
I'm not a dev and you might think this question is stupid, but why can't we downgrade FW versions through software. When we download an OFW, we install it, and while is installing, the file must access the memory where the FW is stored. So, why can't we modify a .pup file to downgrade instead of upgrade?

Because data is stored in the NAND.
You can't go back from there, you have to use a hardware flasher to downgrade.

But the when we are updating with OFW, the update is being stored in the NAND memory. So, the .pup gets access to the NAND because it has to update. We should be able to modify a OFW in order to trick the memory and install a lower FW.

It does make sense.
You would have to make the 3.55 CFW pup (for example) tell the PS3 it is 4.11 (or whatever as long as it is higher than the FW already installed) and it should work. This goes on the PS3 firmware acting the same as most firmwares though as that is all they do. |

the syscon doesn't allow you to go to a previous version of the firmware version there are more checks involved, but this is what you need to know, only with special crafted files, there is a possibility to do so, or through hardware downgrade that bypasses the syscon, with then a specially crafted pup.

As anyone tried downgrading with software? If we can upgrade via software, we must be able to downgrade via software!
