e3 Fast Dual Boot: CFW works, but OFW beeps 3 times and shuts off
I have an intresting situation. In a misguided attempt to fix some errors I was getting I tried to load 4.1.1 firmware onto my CFW NOR (the second NOR on the e3flasher).
After I did this, or perhaps somwehre else along the lines (I been working so late and much on this its possible it was something else) My console will no longer boot from the OFW. If all the switches are done on my console it turns on, beeps three times, and then shuts off with a red blinking light. I am all soldered up for fast dual boot and had my console 100% working just yesterday. Fast dual boot was working great, but I wanted to try something else and managed to do this to myself. I have tried restoring my 4.1.1 backup numerous times, and it keeps doing the exact same thing. I can't get into factory service mode or anything it ALWAYS shuts off. That said my CFW works GREAT. I can load up my console to the dashboard, upgrade, downgrade and do whatever I want with CFW turned on. I feel stuck. I've searched everywhere. Does anyone know if there is something I might try to get OFW to work. Fast dual boot was the major reason I took on this project and without it i'm kinda sunk. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. EDIT: I just put my ps3 into factory service mode while in CFW, and then restarted in OFW and it doesn't beep it just shuts down after a few moments of reading the hardrive and USB stick. I don't know if that's relevent, but it is different behavior. EDIT: I am pretty sure that my 4.1.1 firmware dump from when I first got my console works, but I uploaded it case anyone wants to take a look. http://www.2shared.com/file/R3_Ot_V0/bkpps3.html EDIT: Well, I'm stuck. I so wish there was a way to dumb the OB flash on the e3 flasher so I could the working bios off there....I don't get how my e3 OB flash is working and the PS3 flash isn't... I haven't tried dual boot yet, since I have been downgrading multiple ps3s.
But I think I have seen this problem before. I believe the solution was to follow the fast boot guide over again.

Well, I am pretty sure I tried that already, but i've been tinkering with it all day so I will give it another go for the record.
One problem, though, is that I can't follow the proccess verbatim because I can't boot into OFW mode. The system just shuts off. So I have to start in CFW which and skip the backup steps. I also have to do the "unlocking" with e3_downgrade.bin in CFW. I will try that though and post back here with the results. Thanks a bunch for the reply BTW |

Do you have a copy of your OFW nor bios backup? If so, try putting that on the micro sd card and flash using FLASH FUN option on e3 flasher (first switch up, the rest all down) i had the same exact problem as you, and i solved it (i have a fat Ps3) sometimes, the downgrade process gives you a YLOD, and you may also need to solder the SBCE point from your e3 flasher to the nor Tristate on your ps3 motherboard. Good luck buddy

SO, it works!
I took the plunge and followed the steps that I could verbatum. The thing that I never dared do, that I was sure would brick my entire console for good, was "flash the OB Nor". I was under the assumption that the onboard nor was reffering to the chip on the e3flasher itself. The very chip that I belived contained the only working copy of my firmware. I fiured if I flash it the bad firmware from the ps3 would ruin it. Well it didn't. I'm so happy right now, been at this for littelry 17 hours. I mean its fun, I love solving the problems and reading the forums. Otherwise I wouldn'th have spent this much time on it, but man I was sure I had bricked it THIS time. AEWSOME! |

I've just been through the same thing. However found a much faster and simpler method to fix a console which has a working CFW and a bodged OFW.
Make sure your SBE and SBCE connections are made properly and the trace between points A and B is cut, then follow these instructions: 1) Insert empty microSD card into the flasher (fat32 formatted) 2) Set E3 flasher to: PS3MODE, CFW, BACKUP, microSD, OBFLASH, LOCK Otherwise: DOWN, UP, UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN. 3) Turn on PS3 and wait for it to get into a stable state whether that is at the cross media bar or in my case it was at the connect PS controller. 4) Press start on the E3 flasher (NOTE: if your firmware is on the latest version on the E3 flasher it will create 3 backup files) 5) Turn off PS3 6) Take the microSD card out of the E3 flasher and put it into your PC/MAC 7) Change the name of one of the files, eg: bkpe31.bin to bkpps3.bin 8) Put the microSD card back into the E3 flasher 9) Set the E3 flasher to: FLASHFUN, OFW, PROG, microSD, PS3FLASH, LOCK Otherwise: UP, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN 10) Turn on the PS3 11) Press START on the E3 flasher (wait for it to complete the flash and the blue LEDs to blink alternatively) 12) Turn off the PS3 13) Change the E3 settings to: PS3MODE, OFW, PROG, microSD, PS3FLASH, LOCK Otherwise: DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, DOWN 14) Turn on PS3, enjoy

no mate.
What my guide does is it gets CFW firmware installed on the OFW location. So the next step is to shut down the console. Then swap HDD's. Then install OFW. ![]()

E3 Flasher Fast Dual Boot
The Fast Dual Boot is not currently supported with TB CFW V2 which is required for playing the latest games with True Blue Dongle. It used to Dual Boot before when the dongle operated on TB CFW V1 which is what the E3 CFW is based on.it is possible to fast dual boot V3.1 Rogero CFW and various others including TrueBlue-3.55-CFW-v1 which is useless as the true blue dongle update 2.62 requires TrueBlue-3.55-CFW-v2.
