Need advice for purchasing new ps3

Hi,

I am planning to buy a PS3 SLIM, and I have two choices either buying:
-OFW <= 3.50 second hand, and then downgradding to 3.41with a softsolution, so no PSN
or
-OFW <= 3.60 first hand and buying a E3 flasher.

I heard that it is possible to switch between CFW and OFW with the E3 flasher, hence having the choice of playing online with the PSN or offline with the CFW.

Price wise, the second hand OFW 3.50 is at 200$ (2 controllers only) and the new one is at 250$ (with 2 games, and 2 controllers).

What would you recommend me?

Thanks for your advice.

I advise to buy the one in second hand, because if you buy the one in first hand with 3.60 FW you won't be able to downgrade it because E3 Flasher only downgrades to the original FW the PS3 came with, and the original FW in this case is 3.60. But the one in second hand. I bought one new and it came with 3.60, consequently, I'm very regretted. I had very bad luck.

You don't have to downgrade to 3.41, you can update to 3.55 and then install CFW.

You could get the second hand and e3 flasher. Then you could dual boot, like you want.

okay, untill i get the e3 flasher i wont be able to use the psn right? i see there are two versions of it: the one you bind to the mother board and the usb stick? multibooting requires 2 hard drives, or can i use the same hard drive for both?
last but not least, buying a second hand ps3 doesnt create any registration issues with the psn? psn account are independent from the machine itself? btw how can i know if the 2nd version is not bricked/ banned from the psn?

thanks for your answers!

You don't need the E3 flasher. You can update from 3.50 to 3.55 FW and then update to 3.55 CFW. Has simple as that.

If PSN is a big thing for you then get both consoles (if you can afford it) as by the time you have bought a second hard drive and all the flashing gear, the price is not that different and at least you will not have the risk of buggering up the flash.

@RafaSimpsons

He wants to dual boot so he can have OFW (PSN) and also CFW

So i can use the PSN with a 3.55 CFW? with no risk of getting bannned? I am more familiar with banning process of the xbox360.
Can I use a legit game online with the PSN and CFW 3.55?

I think the main point is playing online yes; there are not so many good games, so not that much money to spend.
So if CFW means no PSN, i think its a bit of a waste TBH :/
Buying 2 could be an interesting choice . . .
