When you formatted the drive it erased everything.

Like he said, if u formatted the hdd u erased everything. A popup window should have appeared when u plugged in the hdd to ur pc to fix any corrupted files. I have hit both fix and ignore and nothing happens but it showing the files like always. I bet u panicked when u saw that message and formatted the hdd. :0 I could be wrong

its not like that, i have that external for almost a year, that message allways pops up when i connect it to my (or any) PC... but this time was diferent. I was playing like always then i connec tit to my PC and some weird thing start to happen, my pc freezze for almost five min, so i though that the usb was wrong and then i plug it to my ps3 again and it happened again, my ps3 freeze too... so i decided to dismantel the HDD (WD My Book Essentials, it have a normal HDD caviar green on it) and connect it via sata to my pc, but was the same... now it works like allways, but it have nothing on it (except the few games i backed up on my PC)
i dont know... its just weird |

I've recovered a drive I've formatted before. The info should still be there as long as you don't write new info over it. I've used to programs that both worked in such a situation. The more user friendly EASUS and Testdisk which is a little more complicated. You need to make sure you have sufficient memory other than the corrupted drive to put the recovered data.

As Bobby says. It doesnt actually delete the data as that would take way top long time. Instead when formatting a fat drive, it just overwrites the file table at the start of the harddisk with one that doesnt contain ant entries. There's a ton of programs that would allow you to recover the data from it. HAVE you, however, used your harddisk since formatting, which would be stupid since you wanted to recover the data on it, then you are most likely out of luck, as you may have overwritten some of the underlying data... Perhaps since its FAT formatted I assume, and data is physically laid sequential on the disk, it might be there are some files that haven't been overwritten partially at all in other areas of the disk, which you can still achieve.
EDIT: My 200th post... Hope you can use it. |

yes EASUS data recovery is incredible. I pulled from a 16GB flash drive 70GB+ of data after it got corrupt & nothing was accessible. usb NEVER WORKED AGAIN BUT => EASUS recovery got me everything i ever copied to that 16GB flash drive = amazing recovery software !

I don't know how far you have gotten with the drive but if all the formats you did were quick formats then you should still be able to recover some data. First thing is first make an image of the drive just in case. Next use recovery software like stellar recovery to scan the drive. depending on the software you plan on using select all the longer options and not the quick options if asked. When done you should be able to see some files that were found on the drive. Do not recover the data back onto the drive, recover it to a separate drive.
If you have done a full format then it is already to late. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
