Noob downgrade assistance

Hi all, im new to the forum. I decided this weekend that I would like to dip into the ps3 CFW scene, after some limited development from the android side. It appears that I was terribly ignorant in thinking it was the same concept and therefore similar processes between rooting/jailbreaking.... anyways, I have a slim on 4.10 that has been my daily driver for awhile now, and as i want to keep my PSN rights to play tons of BF3, I purchased a playstation from craigslist ($80) it is a cechp001 on 4.11 and is my understanding that i need an e3, progskeet, or teensy++ board in order to downgrade to 3.55 OFW where i can then go to CFW. However i am having issues gathering information on what exactly is needed for my setup, and am also looking for a bit of guidance as this is my first venture. So to the actual questions:

Is my understanding of what i need to do somewhat correct?

Could someone point me in a direction as to what chip i need to purchase?
(I am comfortable with my soldering skills however i would rather have a solderless kit if available, but if there is a large difference in cost, I will have no problem doing the job myself)

Are there any tutorials or something of the sort for my specific set-up?
(I don't need anybody to hold my hand to the process, but it sure would help )

Im sure i will have plenty more for you and will try to keep from asking terribly stupid questions (such as can i downgrade with just a usb drive) In my exploration of this forum, it appears as if that question is the quickest way to get flamed!!

I look forward to hearing from you all, and really appreciate your time and valuable input to help me get my feet on the ground with this.

Also, i forgot to ask about dongles!!!!!!

Okay cool, i just wanted to verify that.

So if i purchase a teensy++ from PJRC, install it, then follow the directions posted in the link above, this is all i will need to downgrade?

I'm afraid i dont understand the concept of dongles

Would the purchase of a Teensy++ board come with a wiring diagram for my NOR chip? if not, where can i find that? or even better, a video tutorial.. I did use google, but nothing i found showed actual installation steps, just the necessary steps after install.

Also, out of curiosity, i went into gamestop today to ask about their refurb units, they told me that whenever they get a console in, they send it off for a complete wipe and the OFW version that came with the unit from release is put back on, can/has that been verified? or did they not know what they were talking about?

Many thanks for your help!

if you go to Gamestop go and ask to see their PS3 bundles Oldest ones first. the older the better :D, and if you do get a teensy it shouldn't be that hard but you won't get a diagram, you must find one on the psdevwiki or someone may have one. But personally i would go with an E3flasher due to the ease of use, but it has a high brick chance if you don't get a good dump of your nor.
Its hard stuff man :/

Im definitely considering unloading the one i have and just going to gamestop to try my odds, the only reason i was considering the Teensy++ is because of cost, i dont think 25 bucks can be beat, I'm confident in my soldering skills and I dont put any value on my time i actualy talked to a local console repair guy today, and he's got a phat with 3.15 and a broken blu ray, so i might just do a straight up trade and see if i can repair the drive myself for backup purposes.... i have so many choices, and not a clue what im gonna do!

Go for the trade if you don't want homebrew unless you can replace the broken drive(i don't think thats possible because i think they are console locked) but try gamestop first.
