PS3 3.72 RSOD troubleshooting

Hi there I have a PS3 with RSOD 3.72 - L modal. At the moment I am just trying to figure out if RSOD repairable or just temporary? I have also read that it can be a hardware problem. If so does anyone have any idea what hardware goes bad?
I found this http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/RSOD_Fix
according to that I think if I can get in FSM and be able to recover this unit. Please let me know what you think. I also have a PSP-3000 with PSPJIG and no luck getting in FSM and a ProgSkeet. I also do reballing if that helps with this in any way.
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
Also what is the best method to access FSM these days? Can PSPJIG still be used?

If u go into factory service mode with a 3.72 fw console u will NOT be able to get out. I repeat, u will NOT be able to get out. Don't try it. Don't even try it. Fist tell me the full details of how it received the rsod. Were u downgrading, installing a firmware, installing a game or app? A little more detail and maybe i can help

Unit was just turned on and one day had the RSOD. Customer tried updating it with no success then brought unit into my shop. I have quite a few of these RSOD here just trying to find a method to repair them.

Ok, well being that its on 3.73 its not as easy as it could be. The first thing would be to format the hard drive with another ps3 on the same firmware it was on. Then at that point, go into recovery, as it should let u now and Install an official firmware only. Probably wanna stick with 3.73 until that flashes fine. Then update again to 4.whatever. Now, if it did in fact go into factory service mode even though it did not show anything on the screen as such. Ur screwed, and will not be able to get outta this at the present time. But like i said, u just need to be certain of what firmware ur putting on and that it matches the one this console WAS on. After that, same method as usual for intalling an official firmware. Now with that being said, this is theory and may not work with 3.73 and rsod. I did it with 3.55 and are totally different firmwares. Though this will not hurt ur unit by trying it soo....worth a shot. Anyway, there is also a Lv2diag file for this particular situation called FactoryServiceMode_Lv2diag_RSOD.self though i beleive and am not 100% sure this is what u were refering to as a fix. I honstly think that this file is for consoles on 3.55 so be careful with it.

I have tried that method with no luck. I am able to put a firmware in recovery mode but it reboots with RSOD. as far as I know you need to get it in FSM then shutdown.then boot ps3 with usb with the Lv2Diag in right most usb port to remove RSOD

U CAN NOT, I REPEAT CAN NOT get outta factory service mode when u are on 3.73. If u can, i'm sure the devs on here would like to know how u did it.

Yea, that is the file i thought u were referring to. Um.. i'm quite certain it is only for 3.55 consoles. It's basically an encryption that tells the ps3 to pull out of factory service mode. With the 3.56 firmware update, Sony put an end to that with a new encryption code which left us screwed as cfw users and dry as a scene, like we are today. Noone has publicly cracked any 3.56 keys which in turn means... no way out of factory service mode. With that being said... what i think this file does is put u in factory service mode to get rid of the rsod. So when it puts u in... I believe u would be left with a paper weight in ur hands. I really need some help on this though.... HELP PLEASE!!! Any mods?

Maybe not....look here---->http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...solution-1920/

It does not put u into factory service mode. So try it. Put the usb with the file on the root of the drive.... but instead of the rest of what it says about factory service mode just turn on ur console. It should blink yellow for a second then green the shut down.

P.S. keep me updated as i'm curious. And progskeet probably wouldn't do u any good if u don't have a good dump of ur nand to begin with to recover from... and being ur on the rsod... that would be a nogo.
