Super noobie questions for a first time "ps3er"
I just want to ask all my questions in one place instead of going here and there and here and there. Sorry .
1. I'm thinking about buying a ps3...and I have my eye on a MGs4 gun metal gray. Do you think I should get one of the earlier models instead ?I do want to play my old ps2 games. 2. If i got on older ps3 instead. Could i put my ps2 games on the hdd and play them off of there? Or ...is there a way to do this even with new ps3s that have been modded? 3. Where is a good site that I would be able to send me ps3 to be modded. Or ...do you think I could post it here for someone to do it? 4. Finally..and I know...I can search for it. But ...Is there some sort of limitation to what kind of games I can play from the hdd depending on how I have my ps3 modded? Or is there only one way to mod? Thanks. 1) If that model PS3 has backwards capabilities most if not all ps2/ps1 games should play just fine. If it is a model that isn't backwards compatible then you will have to resort to the software emulator which isn't as good but all PS3s play ps1 games just fine iirc.
2) The only way I remember doing this is with the swap magic method or getting cobra dongle. 3) You really don't need someone to mod it for you, it really is freaking easy, unless you need to downgrade then you might want to send it to someone. Just check if you are on firmware 3.55 or lower, if so you are all good to go. 4) Current CFWs that don't require a dongle can only play 3.55 games and lower, that is the exception of some eboot fixes for some games. TB right now is the only CFW and dongle that will allow playing of newer (3.56+) games. I recommend not getting the TB and just get kmeaw CFW or rebugs CFW for homebrew and backups.

1. The MGS4 edition ps3 is not backwards compatible. It is a G01 model and the only ones compatible with ps2 games are A01,B01, and E01.
2. Yes there is a way to play ps2 games from an external hard drive with a program called ps2 loader but it requires swap magic to work and will only work with A01 and B01 consoles as those have ps2 hardware inside. 3. Save urself from bashing ur brains out and buy one already on 3.55 or lower firmware. Trust me, they are out there as i just bought one a week ago (G01 model) stuck in demo mode for $35. Just have to look around. 4. There is no limitation if u wanna piss alot of people off and buy a true blu dongle which plays basically all the new games. But... I'm not recommending it as they are a contribution to the destruction of what u are looking at. |

Now where would I go to get a true blue dongle? I imagine one of you knows where you can buy one without being scammed. I'm sure tutorials for ps2 games can be found on this site right? |

I PERSONALLY hate tb because they are making money off of the "ps3 scene" when all the other console "scenes" have been open source and mostly devoted to opening up the console so we can do what we like with it. Tb hasnt shared any of their work and hasnt explained how they did it, they are holding back information and might even know how to jailbreak 3.56+ fw and arent telling us, all for money, of course...
