Unfortunately the used PS3 I bought is now fried. The repair guys think the board is fried.

So ideally I would like to buy a new PS3. Is it possible to find one in the wild now? If so, any stores in specific you guys would recommend? Also, any bundles or something else of the sort?

I know my local Gamestop has the Move Sports Champion Bundle. But I am not sure about that one.

whatever you do DONT buy new from gamestop...you are quite unlikely to find a new ps3 with cfw 3.55-

i would recommend, if you really want a hackable console to buy used, check firmware return if necessary, repeat..although that might get a little suspicious, what can they do?

My biggest fear is that I will end up buying another used PS3 that will YLOD on me in a year from now. That is why I kinda wanted to go with new.

thats what i was worried about as well, i guess it is possible and a 4.11 jb might come out eventually in my case i went ahead and bought new. although i cant run homebrew or anything its not so bad...lotta cheap good games on ps3 nowadays

Btw, change thermal paste from something else than should-last-past-our-guarantee paste, and watchout for overheating.

Yeah, I have the Thermal Paste and all. Unfortunately my old PS3 got fried during my attempt at reflowing.

My worry is, some dude took in his PS3 that already got a YLOD and just sold it to get a new one. In their tests, they turn it on to see if it works then they call it a day unfortunately. Meanwhile the YLOD can come on in 10 minutes or so.

i think maybe there is some new ons left but not alot. i was buying 2 ps3 in the last 12 months and the came whit 3.55 and 3.50. i lock after the Part Number in my case boths are CECH2504A att the internetstore the had somebundle i cut see it was the 3000serie. i ordre the 2504a and i pay a little bit more fore them. i had no risk because the have 14 days return aat the store and 100% payback. maybe the are some letf i cut ask lol

Does the CECH2501A have 3.5 on it?

I found one of those by me, but according to the list I saw online http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models, the 25xx models are very hit and miss. You either 3.5 or 3.61 which is highly annoying. Especially since they reused the SKUs!

The one near me has the Netflix streaming ad on it, are those ads still on the newer boxes?

i dont think really but the last one i get was in septemper last year and it came on 3.50.

Unfortunately the chances are slim. The new "unhackable" console stock started taking over quite some time ago. These consoles are theoried to not run any of the older firmware due to a futher locked down bootloader. If you are going to take your chances then don't buy from a store that has a high turnover of PS3 stock.

Even if we eventually do discover the LV0 private keys and create a 4.11 CFW from that, It will not run on these consoles.
