Why not give the users the option to select their editing application on the fly? I haven't really looked at the app much, but surely it wouldn't be difficult to implement.

yeah it does give users an option. First when the user runs the program and click edit a popup filebrowser shows and users are then asked to browse to any application (of course it needs to be a application capable of editing DDS files). The only time PCLC2 runs GIMP automatically is when the user specifically gone and extracted GIMP from the help menu.

How PCLC2 operates is when edit button is pressed it checks a string. That string contains the path of the editing program. If that string is nothing it first then checks to see if "C:\PCLCv2.5\Gimp" exists. If it does exists it runs the extracted GIMP. If both the string is nothing and "C:\PCLCv2.5\Gimp" does not exist then it displays a filebrowser for the user to pick their own application to use, once the application is selected the path to that application is saved as the string mentioned earlier. Next time edit is clicked the string is not nothing and will run the the program at the path specified by the string.

Brilliant thank you so much! I have just copied and pasted (essentially) my coldboot that I made in GIMP and recreated it in Photoshop and now it has the right fade-in/fade-out transitions!

Thanks again for this man, great work!

Could I ask what settings were used in GIMP when saving that produced the working coldboot? even thought the transitions were off.

Completely default settings, when I opened GIMP, a window popped up for the DDS plugin with both sub-options remained as checked and then once I had finished with my coldboot I just clicked save and with no error messages, closed GIMP and the preview screen was automatically updated with my design. Then I created the coldboot using the green tick and it worked great apart from the lack of transitions!

One thing with that though that it did well was no random black screen for a second before showing the background waves like during this coldboot:

How To Make A Coloured PS3 Coldboot (CFW Only) - YouTube

At 9:18 when the coldboot fades out the whole screen fades to black with it and that happens with mine (that I created via Photoshop) as well yet with the GIMP creation it had not black screened, just a complete lack of transitions.

Basically if you could eliminate the 1 second black screen it would be perfect!

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

I see thanks for the info. Unfortunately like mentioned my ps3 is busted and so no testing can be done so I can't really start any major mods until it fixed. I guess until then I will have to look into doing other things aside from things that need testing on PS3 (for now).
