lol a 9800gt is no means a monster GPU lol. Maybe back then, a couple generations ago, the gtx 550 ti you picked demolishes a 9800 gt. And if you plan on running windows and also plan on getting 8GB of ram then I would get a 64 bit variant of windows as the 32bit version (if you didn't know) only use up to almost 4GB.

I guess it depends on how frequently you upgrade. If you upgrade every year it would still be most expensive than if you built a computer that will at least last 4-5 years.

I started with a 2.8 pentium4.
nvidia 6800gt.
2GB ram.
200 GB hdd.
for iirc for about $1200 about 9 years ago.

Ive upgraded once every 2-3 years and now I have:
2600k.
8GB ram.
~6TB total HDD
and each time I upgraded was ~$500 worth.

PS: not disagreeing or anything just putting out my thoughts.

yeah i think ur gpu support should be fine
as far as cpu and mobo id go with a 2011 pin series
check how much this cpu is Intel Core i7-3820 3.6Ghz (over here its price isnt that different) to the 2500k
and u would need a 2011 mobo id look at the ASRock X79

but either way ur gonna have a nice build

Yeah I never go ASRock for anything anymore. For me its all EVGA, XFX, MSI, ASUS, Zotac.

First Pick for me would be either an EVGA or ASUS, last pick for me would be Zotac (although they make some interesting ITX boards ), and last resort would be an intel board lol. But ew never asrock even though i hear their highend boards are cheap and actually good.

asus haven't released an x79 mobo yet unless u count this baby http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...011/Z9PED8_WS/
dont know if the gigabyte gets sold out side the U.S yet? its hasn't been at any re sellers in my country.
anyway i'[v played around on a few asrock machines {my mate has one) and there hasn't been any issue
but in my opinion asus is the leader in mobo tech

@psyki not leader in mobo tech, hence their low/mid mobos have some serious heat problems if they are not well cooled with some nice pair of 120mm fans or even more.
Only some mid-ends and high-ends are the best in the market.
But if the OP want to do some serious OC i recommend gigabyte since Asus it's so so on that end.

The international shipment on amazon it's pretty expensive.
I bought some items from there, but i payed more than the product itself.
