[FIX]failed to initialize E3 NOR - BIOS backup problem

While downgrading my Ps3 Slim with E3 flasher I got stuck on the second step wherein it says to backup the original BIOS.

I was getting the error "failed to initialize E3 NOR". The reason why this error comes (most of the times) is if the e3 clip is not sitting correctly on top of the NOR on the motherboard.

My ps3 has the NOR chip on the motherboard at a 90 degree turn to most video tutorials out there.

here is a picture

here is how to put the e3 clip on the NOR.

If you notice picture 1 above, to the left of the NOR chip you will see two transistors. The one on the top obstructs the e3 clip and hence it cannot make connection with the NOR and that is when the failed to initialize E3 NOR error comes.

How to fix this?
I followed a foolproof approach on this as I was sick of opening my PS3 again and again.

Step1.
Improvise the e3 clip - sanding. Use the picture here for reference.
http://www.ps3hax.net/showpost.php?p...6&postcount=15

Step2.
After sanding clean the clip and the NOR with some alcohol.
spend 10 cents more on the downgrade
Take a 10 cent coin and place it on top of the e3 clip and put a layer of tape. take some foam and put it on top of the coin and put in another layer of tape.

Now you should be good.

Please note the ideas in step 1 & 2 are not my original, for step 1 I have given the reference, but for step 2 I cannot find the post where I read it but I read it on this forum itself.

Hope this helps a few people.

@haz367 if you can edit the image to see it fullscreen not attached since they tend to get broken when some time passes.
Just enter the [img][/img] if you can if you don't want to it's ok.

no problem bro ....:D

@haz367 I see that you are passing the ribbon cable from the side of the HDD connector , I passed it on top of the hDD connector, don't you have a piece of metal on the motherboard base which comes in the way when passing the cable right beside the HDD connector?

@haz367 - oops ..I see you have cut your motherboard base at places ...I wish I had the tools to that handy ...but yeah cutting might be required , else you may spend 12 hours setting up the e3 flasher (like I did :P)

i would but can't, this one is already finished and put back together, i made the pics while removing the e3 for another.. to many times removing power supply aint good either, i'm sorry..anyway u can do it!

just be sure the clip is fitted 100%, use transparant tape it sticks real good!
to make the e3 fit, some say cutoff a little, maibe..best way in my view is using a small (in dutch) vijltje(check image), sry don't know the english word
but sandpaper 1500 or so should work fine to

also check youtube and e3tech's "howto attach clip" avi etc..

take a deep breath and take your time, cutting the motherboard plate is maibe not required if u not leave it in after downgrade, otherwise i would cut the case a bit, watch it where the plate is in the way, mark it with a stift and cut it out, sand it to make smooth, clean it with a cain of air and now put that sucker on the NOR

please stop quoting full post's man

goodluck

if u check that pic i made with mad skils lol..cutting i dont see the point..its tiny already, the resistor/transistor?is always just a bit thouging the clip on the bottomside e3clip, those 2 steps like stairs need some filling,do it both sides, then it fits on every board correct, i just had this tool to do the job anyway to keep it short, cutting the plate, when u put it together+clip attached and flip the ribbon in the HDD space..u see where the alu plate is in the way, its not much, in my pic i took a little more, and on the topside, if small fingers not required and the second i did i installed the e3coverboard before putting it together and not cutted the top, first time is always unhandy at least on my end
