please explain...i just said that piracy can actually HELP sales under certain circumstances, especially indie games.

I agree that piracy can sometimes help, simply by getting extra exposure . I steal a game, then I go on a forum and tell everyone about the new, great game I've just discoverd. Suddenly 10 people read my review and decide to buy it.

I am in no way pro piracy, and I agree that it can also be damaging to a company. But sometimes it can help, especcially companies with small PR budget

Piracy helps in the gaming console industry as if your average Joe has a choice between 2 consoles, one which is easily hackable to play pirated games and one not, he will invariably buy the easy to hack one and Yes, that Does include if he Never pirates a game in his life as his peers will influence him.

I mentioned in another thread how the overall console and game sales of the PS3 increased during the 3.55 CFW days, and how they then decreased when it hit a brick wall.

It's all in sales figures and revenue if you look for it, and sorry, but for it to be coincidental just does not wash.

Sony have placed too much emphasis on piracy and it is harming their sales and income.

The Witcher 2 did not manage to sell one million copies. It managed to sell 710,000 copies worldwide which is only a fraction of the amount of times it's been pirated (4.5M).

We are using the PC version as an example since it is the only version available. The Xbox 360 version comes out tomorrow.

I admire that attitude. I truly do. It means you are passionate about your work. However, I am basing my arguments on the way I believe businesses to work and that probably wouldn't work if you were a big developer such as EA, or Activision, or Capcom.

You are correct but using the term "certain circumstances" is a very broad way of putting it. You could easily have the broad term used against you in a counter argument.
