Downgrade using ipod touch/iphone still possible?

What's up guys, i'm not new to the console modding scene, I've got a ton of ps2 and original xbox mods under my belt. Boy do I miss those days...but anyway!

I never jumped into the ps3 scene too much until recently. I've read the ropes, hit the FAQs etc etc.

I understand that awhile back it was possible to reflash to a lower firmware using an iphone(2g or 3g) or an itouch (1g), jailbroken of course.

I was wondering, does this method still apply? I can't find any information on using those devices to downgrade from any firmware higher than 3.7x

Is it still possible to use them for example to go from latest 4.11 OFW to 3.5x or 3.3x?

If the answer is yes, I am beginning my mod as soon as I read the three magical letters.
It's kinda seeming to be too good to be true though so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
And I'm waiting until somebody answers before I try it because I don't need any more bricks in my house

Thanks ahead of time

Those methods are only possible, using firmware 3.55 and below.

In order to downgrade with any firmware 3.56 and above, you need extra hardware.

Damn you guys are fast....lol

Okay, so from the two replies, I'm taking it that...

1.) Back around the OFW 3.5 era...it was possible to use just a jailbroken iphone/touch to downgrade and that
2.) For any firmware above 3.5 it is *still* possible to do it via this method, but you need additional hardware as well (e3 flasher)

Si?

Yessssir! lol, I does my homeworks. I'm on a lot of boards and I hate multiple threads all asking the same shi* over and over again.

I had a lot of trouble finding any recent information about the softmods using devices though and had to ask.

It seems like a flasher is the ONLY way to downgrade anymore, huh?

Yeah it seems like that, i have been trying to find out about this scene aswell and i have been soo confused. I don't know why, its like the PS3 itself is so complicated that everything written about it has to be complicated as well.

It was soo much easier flashing my 360, but i still want to find a way to get some nice homebrew into my PS3. Buying one today actually :D Hoping that its pre 3.5, its been standing non-updated since two years back so i just hope :D

1) it is possible to use downgrade dongle if you are on 3.55 or below.
2)if you are above of 3.55 fw you must have a flasher.

Its hard and complicated because the easy methods were found used then patched.
