ps3 slim freezes and artifacts after few moments on plz help!

Today I was playing my ps3 slim chech2101A after a few hours of game play it froze and showed artifacts,
I think its a gpu problem, my question is if anyone has had experience with this problem, can this be fixed with thermal paste? or is it more complicated then that?

ps3 freezes after a few minutes being on now, and then wont show video for about an hour.
thanks

you may try system restore or hdd format in the recovery menu or try installing the cfw again
if its a software fault it will get OK after this
