Difference between HDD's rpms
Is there any difference between a 5400 rpm HDD and a 7200 rpm HDD?
For example, does it affect FPS while playing a game? |

Not really, but depending on how the game works and loads any sequences into memory it can cause slight lags and stutters.
That said though, I doubt very much any modern games are affected by that

7200 obviously spin faster, not sure if in a PS3 they will result in faster load times or not though.
But again as they spin faster they will produce more heat, and so your PS3 will run slightly hotter. If you have a phat PS3 then I recommend you do not buy a 7200rpm hdd. A SSD on the other hand will increase load times of games. Though obviously they cost a lot more.

Well... General playing will not be affected by HDD speeds.. The HDD is by far the biggest bottleneck in a computer (or console), if its based on platters(The usual non SSD HDD). Textures, sprites, etc. isn't first being loaded when you encounter them where they are needed. That would be way too slow in the game to retrieve them that way.. All currently or mostly relevant stuff that is needed on the HDD, is more than likely stored in the RAM
You will ofc, experience faster loading times in games when it's loading, because at one point, the data of course still has to be loaded. To give an example.. The RAM is accessed in the order of nanoseconds, the HDD is in the order of miliseconds ![]() But anyway, a bit more relevant to your question: Again, it wont affect the FPS during gameplay, and if it would, it would be minimal.
