NOOB Question
Hello smart people! I did read as much as humanly possible before I decided to post and wound up being confused more then anything. There is a lot of conflicting information out there. I found this site via a torrent on demonoid and it plainly details how about modding ones PS3. I just want to make sure this is the case before bricking my beloved baby. My PS3 has been in a box for about 2 years to give you an idea about this firmware. Here is the guide I intend on following unless one of you find people instructs me otherwise. Thanks in advance.
One Day at a time..

Hello. Could you please tell us the exact model? Is it phat (well.. fat) or slim? Model as in CECH<numbers and stuff>. It was never used right?

My apologies for not having included the obvious. The manufactured date is November 207, it's a 40GB model 98006 on the box. I have played this unit, it has just been a few years. Thanks again.

I followed the tutorial, part 1 was to install the actual PS3 firmware from the provided link, all went well. But then when I went to install the modded firware in the same fashion from the XMB I am being told the latest version is installed, this is after it successfully copies over the kmeaw .PUP file. What's up with that?
Thanks! |

Install Kmeaw from the recovery menu. It shows you how in the guide.

Yes if you have that error you'll need to install from recovery, I had to do the same. You won't loose data !

From powered off state:
Press and hold the power button until the unit turns on, beeps a few times, then turns itself back off. Then press and hold the button again until it beeps 3 times consecutively. (it should beep once when you first press it, then again when it resets the video, then 3 times when it selects recovery). From here, just choose the update option, then choose from storage media, and voila. Should work no prob.
