If I didn't get you wrong, you'll have to use your own ps3 backup (or at least that's what everyone tells me).

No. True Blue needs a special tb CFW. You can follow this guide from Chapter2-Part 2-QA flag, since you are already downgraded.

if change to official firmware and choose to be on official. Is it act as normal if i update it on the internet or on blue ray? or i need to QA flag every time there is an update from sony?

The qa flag is just so you can get to OFW (preferably3.55) to dehash. Once you dehash, you don't need qa flag. you can toggle it off and update to whatever you want.

Quick question, how effed am I if I didn't follow step 6 and went through plugging my USB controller and hitting the PS button?

5) Power on PS3. You should get a screen that says "Plug in controller to USB and press PS button"
6) DO NOT DO WHAT THE SCREEN SAYS!


Edit(1): I got a little too excited once I got my E3 nor flasher, but didn't know I needed a PS3 JIG/jailbreak utility to continue before using my usb with the updated pup file and enter and exit file.

So I've sucessfully downgraded to CFW 3.55 and all seems good! Thanks for all the help! What my issue is now is that I'm trying to restore my backup onto my original 700GB HDD and it keeps stalling on me using the Backup Utility. Before I flashed my console I made 2 backups of my internal HDD which came to roughly 400GB each on my External USB drive. I tried recovering with the first one and it stalled at 92% and just sat there. I left it for over 24 hours and no dice. So I cancelled it, reformatted the internal HDD and ran the back utility again with the other and its now stalled at 82% and has been running for nearly 72 hours. I'm going to try copying the backup to a different external USB and try restoring from that but just wanted to ask if there was anything else anyone could suggest I could try.
