Does anyone know anything about rooting androids?!(especially the mytouch 3g)

NOTE: the message is what I posted on another forum.
(i made sure to do a backup)

Let me sum up what I have done:

I've managed to follow a guide on a wiki(I lost the link however, since I ATTEMPTED to give up on this) that involved me downgrading my firmware, then do some steps to install cyanogen 1.4. Afterwards, I got to step that required me to rename some file to update.zip. I followed that step and noticed my computer didn't convert the file to a zip file(it remained as a img file) but continued anyway while finding that odd.

Afterwards, cyanogen tells me that it cannot find the zip file. I've search most of google and a bit of this site, and i've seen various solutions that failed me such as:

-renaming the update.zip to update
-using android sdk(which i have no clue on how to use)

Anyways, finding out that I was foolish to do all of this without prior knowledge, I decided to go back to my original firmware. However, on the phone's reboot, cyanogen came up again for some reason, and didn't let the update be applied.(I don't recall the error)

Anyways, I selected reboot and got to my phone's main menu then some music started playing automatically. I should note, before I did the update, I placed all of my backed up data(while still having the original copy on my pc) on my phone so it might've been some music that the original owner had. Now, on the menu, i'm getting this error "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." all the time. Since this error constantly pops up, I can't do anything.
So if you managed to read my long and boring story, let me ask one question:

How do I get my phone back to normal if rooting is impossible at this point?

the xda dev forums were worthless sadly.

TDMaster is right if your running cyanogen mod most likely you have clockworkmod istalled already at this point you need to make sure that you have the rom you want to install and make sure its either ported or works for you phone.. once you have that done you wanna boot into cwm by(holding the volume down and power at the same time when the phone is turned off) that is how my phone does it.. then once your in there you wanna to wipe delvac caches battery caches and wipe and restore phone to factory settings if i remember right... (the battery is in advanced not sure if its necessary but it never hurt me) then you going to install a zip file from sdcard click choose file from sdcard and install the rom.. (ive never downloaded a rom that hasent been zipped) good luck and honestly i think cyanogen mod rom is the best but choose for yourself

Installing the rom was the first problem that ran me into this mess. All because my laptop doesn't convert the img file to a zip file..

Well your rom should have been a zip file to start with. What rom are you trying to use (in case I missed it)? Also for recovery if you cannot use clockwork mod I would suggest seeing if amon ra recovery is an option.

It was a 1.33.2005 SPL. I downloaded it from this wiki: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMo...ch_3G:_Rooting (just ctrl f i guess)

also, i'm trying to mess with the amon ra recovery(i'm basically trying other things). Refer to my post for my now current situation:

It's on 1.5 currently. Also as a little update:

I fixed the "not being able to do anything on the menu" problem by doing a factory reset. Afterwards, I learned the SDK a little bit more and have the tools, pc driver, and fastboot on my pc. However, i'm getting the error:

FAILED (remote: not allow)

1. It's neither really. Just a mytouch 3g. The original.

2.No, but I can probably find it somewhere. Even if I did, that update.zip problem will still prove a problem.

Odin only works on samsung phones. I'm using a Tmobile Mytouch 3g.

1. Have you tried to restore/reflash your -firmware
-kernel
-bootloader ? These must be reflashed using odin for the phone to work..
2. Can you get into "recovery menu thing". If you can, go there and delete/wipe dalvik cache (this helped me after restoring from cyanogen).
3. what phone do you have (including version etc)
I might be able to help you out
