Bwuahahahaha. This thread just makes me laugh as did the Article. geohotz wasn't anything special in the iPhone scene either. The New Yorker makes it seem as if what he did was even difficult(in either scene). Seriously if one can do it on Oxycontin then how hard was it to do in the first place? Also the Mitnick stuff a few pages back obviously Mitnick wasn't a very clever or good hacker as he got caught(same goes for Adrian Lame-o). Things get hacked every day by people who don't care who knows it. Why don't they care? They make millions a year via their hacking skills. Some punk kid living on the Jersey Shore with J-Woww and Snooki is hardly good enough to even be compared to contract hack jobs. Also I would stake a small fortune anyone affiliated with a big enough government contracted security firm could do the amount of work geohotz has done in his entire life(hacking the iPhone, Ps3 and his friggin toaster oven) in about a month.
In short geohot you got moxie kid but you got a long ways to go.

my thing is this Failoverflow and geohot both did a lot for the ps3 scene....


now personally i can't have an opinion on geohot all i knew from him was the he was the first to hack the iPhone but i watched the failoverflow at the hackers convention and between them both i think Sony finally realized that they could stop the hackers and they both gave them the tools(how the hack works) so they could effectively shut us down just my two cents worth...


now i am trying to better myself and am constaly reading ps3wiki so maybe if i could use all the exploit's we have maybe just maybe we will have another CFW for all the ppl that wasn't involved with the first time around..

The fact of the matter is you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds & unfortunately that shows true predominately more so in the Playstation scene than any other. Therefore the same reason your all moaning that no one adds anything or why they will only do it for money, is simply because the playstation scene is not a nice scene to work in especially for free when its dealing with lets face it, a majority of spoilt kids. All the facts speak for themselves you all just add fuel to the fire so good luck to you all on getting what you all want.

Every single person that has tried to help improve the scene with anything of any merit has been given abuse & has left & now you moan that scene is stale & those that are left wont release anything for free.... there's not much else left to really say after that.... I feel bad for them but I guess they don't care because everyone else seems to be on there own high horse.

I like how we get an entire thread devoted to bashing GeoHot, and yet, whenever anyone "flames" math or paints his picture in a negative light, our comments are collapsed and we're banned or warned for "attacking the devs". Point is, despite the fact that I hate people with Holier-than-thou attitudes (yes, this includes GeoHot, Math, George Strait, Kanye West, etc.) those people possess an incredible amount of knowledge on something I know next-to-nothing about in comparison. I never attempt to argue with someone on a subject which I know they'd best me at, and in this case, I would never try to undermine the technical abilities of a man who clearly is superior to me in that way. I likely know more about cars than this guy ever will, but beyond that, I'll always give him credit for what he's done, no matter how great (or small), others may make that out to seem.

tl;dr - GeoHot might be a bad guy, but he's given us a lot in the past. I don't think he's that big of an *******.

This thread isn't here for flaming so much as a one shot venting session for geohot becoming a media hero when there are great devs that barely ever receive a thank you. It's just sad and we're a bit pissed, this thread will eventually be forgotten and hopefully all the crap from it will stay here and not invade other threads and posts.

On your point about "attacking the devs", people "usually" got banned/warned for off topic flame wars that diluted the thread. In this specific thread the point is "geohot is getting attention when he shouldn't, again, and this makes us mad." The thread is on topic and at no risk of degrading any message or information regardless of who people attack/defend/swear at/love/hate/envy/smear with peanut butter.
