I sort of had the same problem as the OP but mine didn't have ylod. The fan would kick up to full speed. I have a 40gb fat, I did the thermal paste on and under the GPU and still had the same problem. It ended up being the CPU had dried out underneth.
Someone pointed me to the site v8s10 linked, there is a thread on making a tool for removing the cpu heatspreader that PrimeTech made. heres the link for the tool with vids and bit of a tut http://forums.cvxgameconsolerepair.c...php?f=9&t=4833 Just take your time on doing the CPU, even it is the 60gb version. The 60 seems to be easier to do than anyother model from what I was advised. This tool worked like a treat for me. I used a feeler guage you can get from halfords (if you are in the uk) or any car parts/tool stores. |

got another question, i have aquired myself a second 60gb PS3 in attempt to fix it, I did the regular heat gun YLOD fix but still it does not power on. Ive switched the power pack to check if that was faulty but still doesnt power on. Could the issue be that the paste under the cpu/gpu needs replacing too? Thanks

![]() I don't know what it is with the CECHA01s, you can reflow them a couple times, then they just refuse to boot. The green light stays on, you can do video reset/put it recovery, you can even put them in service mode with a dongle, they just refuse to show video or boot. I'd guess yours (and mine) need to be reballed.
