Buying a new PC

Hi guys,

Finally replacing my 4 year old laptop with a new desktop.

What do you guys think of this build:

i7-2600k Intel (3.4GHz) + Fan
Z68 Motherboard (I assume standard one)
8gb DDR3 Ram (16g Max)
500g Sata III Hard Drive
NVidia GTX550Ti 1.0g DDR5 VGA/DVi/HDMi
Wireless 802.11 b/g/n
Black Micro ATX Case 500W
Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
22" TFT Monitor

For around £500, doesn't need to be able to play latest games (got a ps3 for that) but i want it to be pretty fast. Any good?

Motherboard = Make sure some gigabyte or asus.
Vga = you can go for the 560 gtx (normal) not TI and you have better results.
Buy a PSU instead of using the one with the Black Micro ATX.
Instead of buy a generic case with a generic PSU, search some *cheap* coolermaster or another brand of cases since the one you choose i think you will tight in terms of space.
And you need good airflow.

I agreed with the suggestion that @hellsing9 gave regarding upping the GPU to a GTX 560. As for the motherbaord there are actually many brands besides just ASUS and Gigabyte Like I've never gone wrong buying EVGA or even MSI. As for the processor If you can get a compatible motherboard for a good price I'd recommend getting the Intel Core I7 3770 as its more powerful for not that much more. Finally if you plan on upgrading those components I'd recommend getting a new PSU as 500 Watts might be kinda pushing it too much maybe up it to 600W.

thanks for the suggestions, i forgot to mention it is a prebuilt system, i am not buying the parts individually.

i thought it seemed a reasonable price for an i7 with 8gb RAM. i just need something quicker, currently running an intel core 2 duo 2ghz, 2gb ram and 320gb HDD.

Oh well if the processor is listed on the site as an option and see how much it costs to include it, if the price is still within your range then I'd get that.

PS: I would like to suggest you build your computer .

I wouldn't even know where to start :/

For a basic system though, should it be alright, I only really need it for university so stuff like internet and word, watching movies and streaming.

That processor isn't available as an upgrade but even an i3 would be better than what i've got now

Well yes the system you have configured is fine for use as a student etc .

PS: Google tutorials and youtube, building a computer is really not hard at all.
