could anyone suggest a build for £450 excluding monitor that would be just as fast? thanks
I'd stick with what you are getting mate apart from the case and PSU.

You will be pushing it to get something similar for the same money if you do a build yourself.

Nothing stops you from changing bits as you go along

Your really only paying for the processor, the rest of the parts are probably all garbage parts. I wouldn't be surprised if you could build that exact system for under £200 the prebuilt system is selling.

There is plenty of resources out there you can use to build and learn how to make your own system, here is a sample build with the most recent components (cheaper if you get older, used or differ parts):

Build your own sys, it's the best and looking the brightside you learn in the process.
And you can get cheaper components or choose good ones at a good price.

I build most of my rigs.

I will discard:

PSU: CiT 650W Power Supply Unit with PSU and Dual 12V Rails - Black Edition £30
Seems crappy. You are buying generic there.

Search for Antec/Thermaltake/Coolermaster PSU.

The motherboard has no integrated graphic card.
If you are going to buy that, you need at least a cheap one.

The big difference between a self build system and a complete system is the mobo's bios. Ready build systems often have a very limited bios making them useless for anyone who wants to do more with a PC than a little kid can do

and believe me, within 2 years you will start to check how to make your system more stable or faster or add extra fast ram to it or are so bored with the thing you want to play with some nice settings. A decent mobo with a normal bios will do the job, the limited bios from a ready build system most of the times won't....

ok if you could recommend a mobo for around £75 what would it be?

Going back to my original build i have been offered:
Asus P8Z68-V LX mobo
i7 2600k processor
8gb DDR3 RAM
500g Sata III Hard Drive
22" TFT Monitor
DVDRW +/- DL drive
NVidia GTX550Ti 1.0g DDR5 VGA/DVi/HDMi
Wireless 802.11 b/g/n
Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

Price is £475, what do you think? All i need to buy is a case and PSU.

I would just buy a Dell. You will have a brand new PC for cheaper and have a full warranty.

Yes and get ripped off with inferior parts!

Pre-built systems from companies like Dell are a joke! I remember when DDR3 was becoming common, Dell were selling their units with DD2 but charging DDR3 prices.

If you can build your own PC then buy the components and build it.
If you cannot build your own PC then learn how to and start saving or getting a better spec PC than what you are currently paying for!

So you're saying no don't buy it, i've basically removed all the rubbish and kept the essentially good value parts.

A 22 inch full hd monitor (about £85) and (i7 2600k about £215) makes about £300 then im getting the final essential parts except a case and power supply
