I think it might just be an issue with where you download the films from. I mean I have never noticed any problems in any of the films I have used. Could try another media server program I guess maybe try Vuze and stream through that app I used to use that but then started splitting them ever since.

Sorry I could not have been more help but if you need a good place to download film from let me no.

PS3 Canivia Fix

Canivia was watermarked with 1 of the latest firmware upgrades for the PS3. It automatically detects what movie you are attempting to watch via disc or stream from your PC. Most people get either error codes 1 or 3. I have 2 fixes for the error 3, the 1 that disables your sound.
First off, disconnecting your internet connection or changing your audio settings DOES NOT fix this. Canivia is watermarked, it has a pre-programmed list of movies and release dates that came with the firmware update, so there is no getting around it that way. Here are 2 solutions you can try:

1) After downloading your movie use ConvertXtoDVD(this is a legit program) to change the format so that it works with all types. This has worked for me with movies such as; Contraband, Killer Elite, the Hangover Part2, The Immortals and a few others.

Download ConvertXtoDVD and open the file with it and convert, after the conversion you can burn it to DVD. Like I said this has worked for most of my movies.

2) Your 2nd option, if you choose to burn using WMP or something of that nature, is to adjust the year. After about 30mins in, give or take, you usually get the audio error message. Simply pause the movie, tap the PS button and go to the date settings and change date to 2013, and so on each time the error message comes up. You can return to where you left off in the movie once you've done this. This works every time and you usually only have to do it 2 or 3 times during the film. So its basically like pausing a movie to grab a bite to eat, a smoke, or whatever.

A couple of other things I recommend when downloading movies:

Be careful of where you get them from; I would suggest giving Express Files a look, very good program.

Get ConvertXtoDVD, you eventually use it at some point and it is fairly easy to get registration codes.

Be wary of any solutions you hear that involve jail-breaking or tampering with hardware settings on your PS3, this can cause permanent damage.

I hope these tips are useful until a permanent solution can be found.
Anything new I discover I will post in the future.

Good Day All

You can use Showtime and they'll all play fine.

Showtime doesn't work on 4.11.

Exclamation

I would really like to know why Cinavia is a good thing and why it's so damn stubborn? But seriously, anybody have a working solution? I remember when Sony was my favorite console manufacturer...

How I assumed Cinavia worked is that there was an audio watermark put into the movie, imagine like a beeping noise in the movie (only its beyond our hearing range) that when the software picks up it knows its 'pirated'. These watermarks are put in anywhere from 3 to 60 minutes as far as I know.

Now if it is like this than converting the audio or other things suggested here wont work because its still the same sound being produced (unless you happen to compress the audio enough while converting/make the audio choppy after splitting it that Cinavia can no longer recognize it). I've tried streaming, converting, burning and splitting, but it just wont go away because it's still the same thing being played.
The easiest way to get around this is just try a different rip.

That is not entirely true. If you use DVDFab or mkv2vob to change the format, it will break the cinavia protection.

Cinavia is gay regardless.

I've been doing a little research on Cinavia, and while it does seem pretty gay, you have to admit that it is also quite clever. The audio watermark in Cinavia can be detected even when the audio is recorded by microphone, such as in cam versions of movies, (not just telesyncs but the ones with a solo dude and flipcam). So if that's the case, what would make anyone think that any type of audio compression is going to eliminate the signal? The Cinavia watermark is designed to survive through any currently available compression or recording technologies. I just downloaded 21 Jump Street which apparently doesn't drop on DVD for another month. The file was in AVI format, in PAL on top of that. I converted the file to a standard DVD 4GB format (VOB) and iso, converted to NTSC, and burned to a DVD and the Cinavia watermark remained. The PS3 gave me an error after less than 30 seconds! I'm sorry but that's f*cking impressive. The digital watermark is encoded in analog audio (the sh*t you hear with your ears), and it uses error correction, so even if the signal isn't perfect, if it can statistically conclude that the water mark exists after listening for it for awhile, the device throws the penalty flag. My solution for now is just to use a $25 Wal-Mart DVD player. You can rip a Blu-Ray, downconvert it to DVD format, and play it on that. Basically take the PS3 out of the equation. Not the optimal solution any of you are looking for, especially if you're streaming bootlegs directly from the internet somehow but..

If you have a little bit of skill and patience, you can remove the audio completely and play it on another source. For example, I can put the audio track on my iPod and play it through the stereo, and play the video (sans audio) on the PS3. Just depends on your AV setup and how badly you want to watch the movie. From what I've read, Cinavia only exists in the audio. (It's only a matter of time before this stuff is widespread in music).

... and yes, I just registered to write this comment. I was compelled after doing 5 minutes of googling on the topic. If anyone has any working tips on how to counter this, please share.

...Or you could just use Showtime, encodes the audio differently
