.dat uses mpeg-2 doesnt it? Showtime supports mpeg-2... have you tired renaming it to an mpeg incase it can be played but simply doesn't handle the extension .dat ?

I guess you're right. I never tried renaming it...
I should test it, maybe it works. Even if it does work the problem is you can't rename files on a cd or dvd; You have to move them to hdd first which is annoying. So supporting dat files directly would be a cool feature.

damn, i responded but i think i switched tabs and accidentally closed this one before clicking post.
anyways, to sum up, i remember vcd and i remember it not being that great, kinda like laserdisc. what i'm getting at is, you didn't think of renaming files, so maybe he's not heard of dat video files. i think i sound like a jerk but i don't mean it, i just had a decent response that got deleted. i always wanted rmvb properly supported and i got lucky and it just happened. i posted it every now and then on here that i love showtime and want rmvb; i'm not sure if the creator saw that but it happened. how showtime works, i know it'll happen for you. i probably waited and updated every chance i got for about a year and it happened. on earlier versions, it would play the video, just very slowly. i was stubborn and didn't want to change file types because i have hundreds of videos in rmvb format and just figured i could wait and i was right. |

But as I said, .dat is not an official videofile extention, it can be anything.. I can't remember the one vcd that I have to have an extention .dat, but it's been a long time since I've looked at that one..
But It would be great ofcourse if it would also detect the fileformat of files which have a different extention, so you won't need to rename it yourself.. |
