ps3 repair kit?

hey guys, i recently bought a ps3 online and installed custom firmware on it, this process does not take long as you all know, about 30 minutes in the system shuts down, after leaving it for 15 minutes i turn it back on and the same only this time ten minutes in, now it wont turn on i have the dreaded red flashing light(ylod),so i have decided to order a ps3 repair kit that has thermal paste, flux, and the copper shims which from what i hear is a pretty good fix if done right,my question is has anyone used one of these kits or even copper shims to fix there ps3 and if so how did it go?
the only good thing is it has not been opened before!
thanks in advance!

I think they are good, never tested them btw just for reading many users with YLODS using different methods or repair kits.
As for the thermal paste...has to be a good one.

I have the YLOD aswell and am attempting to do a homemade reball lol. I I am doing this as its one of the solutions if not the only solution that is a permanent fix. I would recommend it but not the DIY part as I can't personally say how hard/easy it is as I have not gotten to it yet. As hellsing9 stated report back .

Wait, I have one question, what was version of ps3 before you was instaling CFW? 4.11, 3.73... Couse maybea you brick your console by instaling CFW.

no the update was ok it was on 3.41,i even backed up a game and while i was playing it it died! ive never tried the fix this is my first time, it seems fairly straight forward but then again seeing and doing are two different things! if this works i have another ps3 on 3.41 with the same problem so maybe i can bring that one to life aswell. but in answer to your question its definately not bricked it installed 3.55 cfw and multiman.
thanks for the suggestion though!

hey guys,
i finally got my repair kit a couple of days ago but did'nt have time to fix until yesterday, seems to have gone very well played all day yesterday no problems at all, nice cold air coming from the back of the console,im delighted, would recommend the repair kit and the copper shims, i know its only early days but ill keep you's posted how long it lasts, just thought id let you's know! only thing is i broke the clip that holds the ribbon down for the drive and its not working, tried to put some tape on it to hold it down but no luck,im assuming the contact is not good nough if anyone has any ideas let me know,
thanks in advance!
